WELCOMING SPEECH by the Head of English Education of UNSUR
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. The English education study program of Suryakancana University proudly hosted the 2nd Conference on Education of Suryakancana (Connects) 2018. With its theme on “Integrating Local Wisdom and Technology in Education”, this event is expected to serve as a media for teachers, educators, researchers, policy makers, or even enthusiasts to share their perspectives about and insights on the issue of local wisdom, technology, and education for better future practices and studies. In the previous event, we received a lot of submitted abstracts to be presented in the conference. The papers included the topics of teaching, learning and assessment, and other topics in assessment and education. At this 2nd conference, we cordially invite researchers and practitioners working in the field of education, and the application of technology in teaching and learning to join the conference. We proudly announce that we have invited Prof.Dr. H. Dwidja Priyatno,SH.,MH.,Sp.N from Suryakancana University, Prof. Dr. Chairil Effendi,M.S from Tanjungpura University. Workshop on ICT on education would be given by Prof. Dr. Anuncius Gumawang Jati, M.A from Institut Teknologi Bandung as i-Tell President, Finita Dewi, S.S., MA from Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia as Edmodo Ambassador. As for the invited speakers are Badriah, M.Pd as The second Best of National Teacher Competion 2016, Dr. Hj. Iis Ristiani, M.Pd. from Suryakancana University, Dr. H. Iyep Chandra,M.Pd from Suryakancana University, and Gita Noefika Dwijayati, ST, M.Sc as the Founder and Strategic Partnership of @Tunemap.id, to be the speakers for this conference. We expect that the participants will find very meaningful and interesting sessions to expand knowledge, broaden network, and positively contribute to educational research. A MESSAGE FROM CONFERENCE CHAIR The Second Conference on Education
Good morning distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen. Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.
Welcome to the 2nd national Conference on Education of Suryakancana, CONNECTS 2018. The topic of our conference this year is “Integrating Local Wisdom and Technology in Education” The sub-themes of this conference include: Language Education, Science Education, Civic Education, Physical Education and Technology in Education. We are confident that the topic is very relevant to current demand of current situation when technology development is running very rapidly in all aspects. But at the same time, we have to maintain our identity as a nation. Therefore, upholding local wisdom as as well catching up the technology advancement is equally crucial. Especially for education field, where educators have huge responsibility in shaping the next generation characters to be both technology savvy but appreciate the local culture. This conference is held by the English Education Study Program of Faculty of Education and Teacher Training of Suryakancana University Cianjur. And hopefully, it could be our annual program that involved all of our counterparts. There are two plenary sessions, two workshops, and twenty parallel sessions while each parallel consists of three to four presentations. I would like to extend my sincerest gratitude to all parties who have supported this event. Our thanks go to Suryakancana University and staff, and all speakers, participants, sponsors, and guests who are from many regions of Indonesia. Last but not least, I would congratulate and give my special thank to my students of 5th semester of English Education Study Program of Faculty of Education and Teacher Training of Suryakancana University Cianjur year 2014 as the committe who have dedicated their effort and time to make this conference possible. Keywords: Globalization, Local Wisdom, Nation Character, and Social Integration. Abstract: Globalization is always followed by the development of science and technology. This has had a significant impact on various aspects of life's constellation, not least in building a paradigm of society that makes this condition a living value system. This situation has the potential to create cultural marginalization that will ultimately reduce the value of authentic culture and the loss of national identity. This situation has had a negative impact on the low character of the Indonesian, which is unable to make the cultural values as a shield in living life amidst changing and growing cultural dynamics. The purpose of this article is to make education as an essential sector in human life which is an absolute requirement in building a high civilization, so as to be able to carry out its role in the development of the quality of the whole Indonesian people based on cultural approach or in a dynamic socio-cultural background and based on the wisdom of the nation's cultural values Indonesia. The conclusion of this article is that local wisdom education is an education that is oriented towards efforts to preserve the culture of the reduction due to globalization as well as to grow a positive and constructive attitude in order to create a harmonious social integration in the life of society. In addition, the main goal of local wisdom education is to equip educational people who have adaptive, futuristic and advanced capabilities that emphasize aspects of intellectual, moral and social cultural aspects, as well as efforts in realizing the future hopes of the Indonesian as a nation with dignity and identity personality.

Abstrak: Sastra lisan merupakan fakta mental yang menggambarkan seluruh sistem pengetahuan masyarakat pemiliknya. Kita dapat mengetahui mimpi-mimpi, cita-cita, harapan, obsesi, keluh-kesah, atau apa yang biasa disebut dengan kearifan lokal suatu masyarakat melalui sastra lisan mereka. Sayangnya, implementasi pembangunan yang terlalu bersifat ekonomististeknokratis, telah menyebabkan kerusakan yang mencemaskan. Basis-basis tempat tumbuh-kembangnya sastra lisan hilang bersama rusaknya lingkungan. Demikian pula rendahnya perhatian pemerintah pada kehidupan sastra lisan telah menyebabkan generasi muda tidak memberikan penghargaan yang selayaknya kepada sastra lisan. Adalah benar bahwa kita memerlukan perubahan untuk memasuki kehidupan yang lebih baik di masa depan. Akan tetapi, kita memerlukan perubahan-perubahan yang terarah sehingga pembangunan berkelanjutan, yakni pembangunan yang sesuai dengan nilai-nilai kebudayaan yang kita miliki, dapat berlangsung dengan baik.

ORCHESTRATING THINKING SKILLS, TECHNOLOGY TOOLS, AND LEARNING

Abstract: The use of new technologies is often linked to the development of thinking skills. There is a range of different ways to orchestrate thinking skills and students’ learning through the utilization of technology tools. It is believed that the most effective way to help students develop skills they will need to be successful in their future life, is to engage them in higherorder thinking.Instead of assessing students by having them read, take notes and retell facts on multiple choice tests, get them to apply the information and concepts.This will empower them to analyze, create and critique projects for authentic audiences. The advancement of technology makes it possible for students to analyze information, make evaluations and create their own work, all beneficial skills necessary in their future endeavors. Some of the great ways in integrating technology to engage students in higher-order thinking are to have them apply the information they learned by creating videos, recording audios, or creating digital content. Using the modeling-analyzing-designing framework, the workshop participants will 1) be modeled on a tech-enhanced activity which aimed at fostering students’ thinking skills, 2) analyze and reflect on the modeled activity, and 3) design their own tech-enhanced activities to promote students’ thinking skills. By involving in these activities, it is expected that participants will be able to support students in applying information and concept they are learning while developing important thinking as well astechnical skills along the way.

Bangsa Indonesia sebagai bangsa yang majemuk ditandai kepemilikan ragam budaya dengan berbagai karakternya. Multikulturalisme seharusnya dapat dipahami sebagai khasanah/kekayaan budaya bangsa dan menjadi kebanggaan bangsa karena hal ini akan menjadi identitas nasional. Pendidikan multicultural adalah pendidikan yang berbasis budaya perlu diwariskan kepada generasi bangsa; selain untuk menumbuhkan perasaan bangga (sense of belonging), pewarisan nilai-nilai budaya (culture heritage), juga untuk mengokohkan identitas nasional supaya tidak kehilangan jati diri yang dimungkinkan tergerus oleh perkembangan zaman. Melalui pendidikan multicultural sehingga sikap saling mengenal, saling menghormati, saling menghargai dan dapat hidup berdampingan secara damai di antara berbagai etnik, baik yang sesame maupun yang berbeda akan terpupuk dan terbina. Muatan materi pendidikan multicultural dapat diajarkan baik melalui mata pelajaran secara tersendiri atau pun dapat disisipkan pada mata pelajaran lainnya. Pendidikan multicultural dipandang strategis sebagai bahan pelajaran untuk memperkokoh identitas nasional.

The Curriculum 2013 is considered as one of the efforts to provide challenging and meaningful learning. Yet, many parents still compelled schools to provide a curriculum which engage and enthuse young people to take proper account of the lived worlds. It is imperative then that every child recognizes their lived worlds by seeing that every locality is meaningful and this should be valued by the Curriculum across or between the subjects or areas of learning. This paper elaborates the conceptual outlining premise of local-based curriculum and ideas to manifest it in practice. The local-based curriculum allows young people learning local wisdom by recognizing the diversity kinds of knowledge encompass from their ancestors that are taught and valued by schools. A curriculum that gives students context that empower them from outside school so that they survive in the lived worlds.

Abstrak: Kita menyadari bahwa dewasa ini banyak orang yang belum memahami atau bisa jadi gagal faham atau barangkali tidak mengenali kekayaan dan keluhuran akan budaya lokal yang menjadi kearifan masyarakat yang ada sesuai lingkungan hidupnya. “Di mana bumi dipijak, di situ langit dijunjung” adalah pentransferan budaya dari masa ke masa. Tak kenal waktu dan tempat, di manapun dan kapan pun harus selalu kita junjung budaya setempat. Di sisi lain, kemajuan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi sangat berdampak pada perilaku kehidupan manusia. Disadari teknologi memberikan berbagai kemudahan pada segala bentuk pekerjaan manusia. Kita tidak bisa menyalahkan pesatnya teknologi atau mungkin memisahkan teknologidan meninggalkan budaya kearifan lokal yang ada, sehingga berdampak pada perubahanperilaku yang jauh dari budaya lokal. Tentu saja tidak demikian. Banyak hal yang harus dibenahi, sehingga semuanya dapat berjalan seiring, kearifan lokal dan pesatnya teknologi berdampak positif pada pembinaan karakter. Seiring dengan peningkatan karakter baik dan kuat yang akan menjadi ciri atau identitas dalam kehidupan seseorang. Karakter positif tetap terjaga dengan terus memanfaatkan dan meningkatkan pemanfaatan teknologi dalam berbagai kehidupan. Salah satunya adalah dalam berkomunikasi virtual. Karakter apakah yang muncul pada saat seseorang berkomunikasi secara virtual? Apa yang mesti dilakukan agar kearifan lokal itu tetap terjaga dengan terus mengikuti zaman di era pesatnya perkembangan teknologi? Karakter apa yang harus digali dan dipertahankan dari kearifan lokal yang ada? Inilah yang menjadi inti permasalahan dari yang akan dipaparkan dalam tulisan ini. CITY FOR ALL: INTRODUCING TUNE MAP – CROWDSOURCING SIGHTS PLATFORM TO NAVIGATE VISUALLY IMPAIRED

Abstract: In 2010, WHO stated that around 285 million visually-impaired people live in this world. Another source is also stated that about 3.6 million of them are living in Indonesia. Unfortunately, there is a continuous neglect to fulfill their mobility rights. Most of city infrastructures in Indonesia and perhaps most of developing countries are inaccessible and it makes difficult for them to independently go to school, training center, or workplaces. In other words, the unsafe environment hinders them to pursue more productive life. Whereas, the low productivity of the visually-impaired will also eventually affects the social economy aspects in urban life. Nowadays, technology has become a part of everyday life, and it applies for the visually impaired as well. Tune Map is created to eliminate the insecurity among the visually-impaired that may be triggered by inaccessible urban environment. Tune Map is a mobile platform to collect helps and navigate the visually impaired. It has two main users: sighted-users and the visually-impaired as the main beneficial group. Tune Map allows sighted-users as a volunteer to report inaccessible pavements within the city by uploading pictures of obstacles they found on the pavements. The shared information will be collected onto database and be used to safely navigate the visually-impaired through voice and vibration feature. In return, sighted-users will gain certain points for each report that they submitted through Tune Map. In short, Tune Map is a platform that facilitate people’s engagement to benefit other people and create community-based solutions. It will also enhance datadriven city improvement as the government will be able to figure out which route that should be fixed urgently. Tune Map promotes digital pedestrian advocate that allow people around the globe create a safe and accessible urban environment by participating in monitoring as well as in data collection. Therefore, Tune Map creates a project campaign called #MapMyDay, a collective mapping event: to share the knowledge about the accessibility of places in their daily lives through Tune Map app. This project combines technology and social mission to empower local volunteers and communities as digital advocates who promote city for all. The technology makes it easier for us to foster cross-border cooperation, to scale up, as well as to sustain our effort in realizing inclusive city. The participants will then be a “Tune Map Local Hero” community which enable them to stay in touch and find out what is happening in other parts of their city or region for “Map My Day”.

Keywords: Backchannels, Conversation Analysis, Overlaps Abstract: Mostly in conversation there are two or more people who speak. Of course, in the conversation there are overlaps and backchannels. According to Liddicoat, conversation is one of the most common uses of human language. In the other hand, Cruse (2006) stated that conversational analysis is a part of pragmatics, concerned with the structure of natural conversation. The goal of this research is to analyze the conversation in Gravity Falls TV series season 2. There are three primary objectives in this research. First, to find overlaps and backchannels in Gravity Falls TV series season 2.Second, to find the most frequently happen between overlaps and backchannels in Gravity Falls TV series season 2.The last one is to describe how do the other cast responds to the conversation that includes overlaps and backchannels. In collecting the data, the writer use descriptive qualitative method to analyze and describe entire data. The instrument uses in this research was document analysis. The data were taken from Gravity Falls TV series season 2. That is an American animated television series created by Alex Hirsch, and produced by Disney Television Animation for Disney Channel and Disney XD. After getting the data the researcher analyze it based on pragmatically. The researcher found few backchannels and overlaps that happened in the conversation of Gravity Falls TV series season 2. There are 9 data are found, 3 data of overlaps and 6 data of backchannels. In the first conversation that include of overlaps found Mabel say something, Dipper and Stanley responds simultaneously. In the conversation which includes of backchannels there are few backchannels that has found those are hmm yeah, right, hmm. The dominant conversational analysis that occurs between overlaps and backchannels is backchannels.

Despite its prevalence, we know surprisingly little about the cognitive experiences of sarcastic expresser and recipients or their behavioural implication. The current research purposes about Jose Mourinho’s speech in the constraction and interpretation of sarcasm lead to greater creativity because of the abstract thinking. The research entitled “An analysis of sarcasm on Jose Mourinho’s speech”. This research aims to know the sarcasm languages used by Jose Mourinho on his speech and types of sentence used by Jose Mourinho on his speech. Qualitative research used in this research. This research used a video of Jose Mourinho’s speech on YouTube as the media of document analysis. After analyzed his speech, the result showed that Jose Mourinho said fifteen sarcam languages, and used five types of sentence on his speech. Although sarcasm can be used to criticize, there are many non contemptuous uses of sarcasm. Organizational members often communicate positive message through sarcasm (e.g, saying “you look terrible” to someone who is clearly dressed up for an important meeting ). However, even this meaning remark are perceived to be more contemptuous then their sincere version ( Dews & Winner, 1995; Pexman&Olineck, 2002 ). Thus regardless of how critical the sarcasm is intended to be, interpersonal conflict, namely the awareness of discrepancies, incompatible wishes desires the most obvious potential consequence of sarcasm for both the expresser and recipient. Although interpersonal conflict maybe the most intuitive effect of any forms of sarcastic exchange, sarcasm may also generate cognitive and behavioral benefits. Specifically, we propose that general form of sarcasm may stimulate creativity, the generation of ideas, insight or problem solutions.

It is considered as the most effecient way of communicating among people because it offers some benefits. Twitter is one of the most popular social media that is used by people around the world. There are so many of Twitter users use slang language to communicate through this platform. Slang language is a type of language consisting of words and phrases that are regarded as very informal, are more common in speech than writing, and are typically restricted to a particular context or group of people. This research uses qualitative method with aims to find out what slang language that is used by twitter users, to intepret the meaning of the slang language, to classify the type of slang language and to find out which slang type that is used the most. Data were collected through observation of tweets from two Twitter users in a period of time by noting the words that are concluded into slang language. Then the meaning of found slang words are interpreted by utilizing online slang dictionary. Data were classified by its type based on Allan and Burridge theory about slang language then lasty data are analyzed to find out the most slang type is used. The result shows there are 18 slang words found and they were classified to 5 slang types, they are fresh and creative type, flippant type, imitative type, acronym type and clipping type. The type that is used the most is clipping type and the least used is acronym type.

Process of communication is not only involve verbal language, but also non-verbal language is needed. Properly, people use verbal language in spoken form, but sometimes they need to use non-verbal language in order to replace verbal language and to deliver special message. This research investigates a verbal and non-verbal language in martial art. The research was guided by the following specific objectives: to discover verbal language used by Martial Art; to present the nonverbal used by Martial Art; to discover the process of understanding verbal and non-verbal language by athlete in Martial Art competition. The technique of the data analysis used in this research is qualitative method. Verbal and nonverbal language is used by athlete in Martial Art are source of the data. In collecting data, researcher used observation and interview as the instruments of the research. The findings revealed that a variety of verbal and nonverbal language were frequently used within the Martial Art. There were five verbal languages and five nonverbal language. It understood by certain group or particularly group who used this language for communicating between athlete and coach. Five verbal languages refer to jargon, because of its usually means the special language of a group that people outside the group do not understand.

Reading, listening, writing and speaking are four basic major of English skills that should be mastered. For gaining a good ability in English, one of an important components that we must have is a good writing skill. If our writing skill are good it will enable us not only in expressing our ideas through the written, but it will facilitates us to speak English fluently. But, nowadays most of people do not pay attention on their writing skill. So, that is why there are still many mistakes in English ability, one of them found in a caption in social media such as in Instagram. This research was about the analysis of writing errors. This research focused on the analysis of writing errors in Awkarin’s Instagram caption. The aims of this research was to analyze writing errors in Awkarin’s Instagram caption, to find out the types of writing errors that found in Awkarins’s Instagram caption. Last is to know the frequently of writing errors found in Awkarin’s Instagram caption. This research, applied qualitative descriptive approach. While the data was collected through the document analysis by captured every captions which contained the writing errors on Awkarin’s Instagram account. The result of this research showed that there are three categories of writing errors on the caption of Awkarin’s Instagram account, that are capitalization error, spelling error, the last is punctuation error. Based on the results of this research showed that, the frequently of writing errors that found on the caption of Awkarin’s Instagram account is in the category of spelling mistakes, which has total 11 data. The second one is in the category of punctuation mistakes, which has total 5 data. Last, is in the category of capitalization mistakes, which has total 4 data.

In Indonesian context, English is one of the foreign languages which is learnt by many students. The development of approaches, methods and techniques for English are influenced by the study of L2 in Indonesia. This study is purposed to find the connection between theory of acquisition and learning the English as a Foreign Language, to evaluate the process of learning and teaching during the class, and to find out problems encountered by both teacher and learners. The study employed qualitative research with an EFL Classroom as data source through observation. The result of this research has revealed the problems, context, and teaching principles include the strengths and weaknesses. The conclusion find that on video, the teacher presents the grammatical rules for passive voice one by one when that activity being happened, the teacher has utilized the popular ideas to the language learning. As further research, teacher can give students an effective and popular idea to help that conditions.

Abstract: The fast development of information and technology demands teachers to keep updating their teaching styles, approaches, methods and technique. Integrating internet technology or digital media is expected to improve the quality of writing learning process in EFL context. There are useful applications and media that teachers can use to encourage students to be actively involved in the writing learning process, one of them is blog. Blogging is a technological platform that offers learners to write constructively, continuously, and interactively. This research focuses on revealing the utilization of blog as learning media in writing classroom, especially its benefits and obstacles. Observation, questionnaires and interview were conducted to gain the data which were then analyzed qualitatively. This research was conducted in an EFL writing class by involving first semester students of English Education Study Program who took Writing For General Communication at one of universities in Cianjur. The results of analysis reveal that most of students (94.73%) admit that learning writing through blog is beneficial and fun (89.47%). Regarding its benefits, the students mention that blogging is up to date, easy, practical, accesible and durable. It also enables students to share information and insights, actualize and express opinions as well as their writing creativities which can be accessed and read by a lot of readers. Besides, blogging facilitates the students to publish their work that can be a way to be a successful blogger in the future. Furthermore, it is admitted that blogging can be used to enrich students’ vocabulary by reading and learning from their friends’ blog content. Meanwhile, the obstacles come from technical problems such as lack of internet facilities and low internet connection. In addition, the students also have competence problems such as lack of ability to create, operate and manage blog and low proficiency in terms of diction choice and sentence structure.

Keywords: code-mixing, students, formal and non-formal situation Abstract: Code mixing is often used by many people when they speak in order listeners more understand what speakers said and make the speakers easier to say something when they do not know the word in English. This study dicusses how code mixing is used in formal and non-formal situation by students, the reasons of the use of code-mixing in formal and non-formal situation, and the advantages of using code-mixing in formal and non-formal situation. Furthermore, this study utilized qualitative method. The datas are gotten through observation and interview. In addition, there are 36 students, but we just taken 22 students ( 5 male and 17 female ) of 3A English Education Study Program Suryakanaca University are involved in this study. From the observation it was found out that the participants overall are mostly of them used English – Indonesia in formal and non-formal situation it included lecturer, even they used Sundanese. Some students’ reasons used code-mixing is to make easiest communication or explanation with others. Meanwhile, students are given 5 questions for interview. Most of the students’s aswer in interview is improving English language and make a cool explanation. There are some of advantages students used code-mixing in formal and non-formal situation.

It is used all of people. However in communication, people sometimes do not realize what they are talking about and here always appears any faults in cooperative principles. And for making a good conversation or communication, human should obey in cooperative principles to avoid misunderstanding and misinterpretation between speaker and listener. This study is entitled “Conversational maxim in Little Big Shots (talk show and talent show): meet micro mayor James”. This study aimed to investigate the floating maxim in Little Big Shots, and to know the reasons of flouting maxim that done by Harvey, James or Robert in this talk show. This study applied qualitative method for analyzing the data. The data was taken randomly in YouTube application as video. To collect the data researcher used techniques typing the dialogue, selecting the faulted, organizing, explaining and concluding the result of data. And for the result of the research, according to Grice that researcher found all of types flouting maxim in conversation between Harvey, James and Robert. There are six faults in this conversation among are two faults in quality and manner and one in quantity and relevant. And there are several reasons of floating those maxims among for making joke and because the informant is still being kids.

Keberadaan bahasa dan aksara Sunda sangat penting karena merupakan identitas dan jati diri suatu bangsa. Budaya Sunda kini semakin terkikis oleh jaman. Salah satu dari upaya pemerintah adalah dengan memasukan pembelajaran menulis Aksara Sunda di sekolah. Namun dalam kenyataannya, pembelajaran menulis aksara Sunda merupakan salah satu hal yang sulit. Penggunaan aplikasi Padlet dalam proses pembelajaran merupakan satu alternatif dalam meningkatkan pencapaian dan prestasi pelajar. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui keefektivan penggunaan aplikasi Padlet dalam pembelajaran menulis aksara Sunda. Dengan aplikasi berbasis teknologi membuat siswa lebih antusias dalam pembelajaran. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuasi eksperimen dengan pendekatan kuantitatif. Siswa yang dijadikan responden adalah siswa SMK Negeri 2 Cilaku Cianjur, sebanyak 27 siswa. Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah minat siswa terhadap aplikasi Padlet dalam pembelajaran menulis aksara Sunda sangat tinggi. Secara keseluruhan, menunjukkan bahawa aplikasi Padlet dapat mengefektifkan dan secara tidak langsung menarik minat siswa dalam pembelajaran menulis aksara Sunda. Implikasi dari penelitian ini adalah guru dapat menggunakan aplikasi ini dan menghasilkan pembelajaran yang berkesan.

Abstract: Based on the form and meaning of the layer, language can be researched according to its branch, that is phonology, morphology, syntax, and semantics. This research will discuss the phonemics of Dayak Ulu Sakado language, focusing at: Dayak Ulu Sakado language phoneme determination; allophone and distribution of phonemes; cluster of phonemes of Dayak Ulu Sakado language; order of phonemes of Dayak Ulu Sakado language; and syllables of Dayak Ulu Sakado language. The reason for choosing the branch is based on the idea that the search of language elements should be started from small parts. Further research can discuss the greater, for instance, words, phrases, clauses and sentences. The choice of this Dayak Ulu Sakado language research is based on the fact that the Dayak Ulu Sakado language is the Dayak language and as a regional language that is vulnerable to extinction because of the number of speakers less than two thousand people.

Kata kunci: fonologi, bahasa, dialek, Melayu, Sedanau, Natuna Abstrak: Fokus masalah dalam penelitian ini dibatasi pada aspek bunyi bahasa (fonologi) bahasa Melayu dialek Sedanau. Selanjutnya, aspek fonologi dititikberatkan pada jenis-jenis fonem, distribusi segmental, fonem supsegmental, dan pola suku kata dasar. Metode penelitian yang dipakai adalah metode deskriptif. Dalam hal ini, data dikumpulkan dengan cara mengambil suatu korpus bahasa Melayu Natuna dialek Sedanau dan didaftarkan pasangan-pasangan minimal dengan dibantu informan. Data yang telah dikumpulkan ditranskripsikan ke dalam bentuk tulisan fonemis. Selanjutnya, jenis-jenis fonem ditemukan dengan cara menganalisis bunyi-bunyi yang berbeda dan membedakan arti melalui pasangan-pasangan minimal. Distribusi fonem diketahui dengan cara menganalisis posisi setiap jenis fonem dalam kata. Terakhir, pola suku kata diketahui melalui analisis terhadap suku kata dasar. Dari data yang diperoleh, diketahui bahwa dalam bahasa Melayu Natuna dialek Sedanau terdapat 27 fonem yaitu 8 vokal dan 19 konsonan. Selain itu, di kenal 4 jenis diftong yaitu: {aw}, {ay}, {oy}, dan {ow}. Bahasa Melayu Natuna dialek Sedanau tidak memiliki fonem suprasegmental pada tataran kata. Fonem suprasegmental baru ditemukan pada tataran kalimat yaitu berupa nada dan tekanan. Hasil penelitian memberikan informasi pula bahwa vokal /i/, /u/, /ȇ/ dan /a/ menempati posisi awal, tengah, serta akhir kata. Kemudian, vokal /e/, dan /ȏ/ menempati posisi tengah dan akhir kata, sedangkan vokal /ë/ dan /o/ hanya menempati posisi tengah kata. Selanjutnya diperoleh informasi bahwa konsonan /p/, /t/, /k/, /s/, /h/, /l/, /m/,/n/, dan /ng/ menempati posisi awal, tengah, dan akhir kata. Adapun konsonan /b/, /d/, /g/, /c/, /j/, /ny/, /gh/, y, dan /w/ menempati posisi awal dan tengah kata dan konsonan /q/ hanya menempati posisi akhir kata. Di samping itu, dalam bahasa itu terdapat pula diftong, deret vokal, deret konsonan, gugus konsonan, lima jenis suku kata atau sembilan belas pola suku kata.

Penggunaan media yang bervariasi dalam pembelajaran merupakan magnet bagi mahasiswa atau pembelajar untuk dapat lebih termotivasi dan berpasrtisipasi aktif. Metode ceramah dan media yang tidak bervariasi hanya akan menimbulkan kejenuhan bagi pembelajar. Pemilihan metode maupun media harus memperhatikan tujuan pembelajaran, lingkungan pembelajaran, dan karakteristik pembelajar. Mahasiswa atau pembelajar saat ini adalah generasi milenial, yang tumbuh dalam dunia digital, dan segala aktivitasnya tidak terlepas dari teknologi yang canggih. Maka, menumbuhkan motivasi belajar dan partisipasi aktif, dapat dilakukan dengan penggunaan media yang berbasis teknologi. Kahoot merupakan platform permainan interaktif dan edukasi yang dirancang untuk social learning dengan fokus pembelajar adalah pada satu layar yang terkoneksi dengan aplikasi dalam ponsel pintar. Dari hasil pengintegrasian aplikasi kahoot ini, terlihat motivasi dan partisipasi aktif mahasiswa dalam pembelajaran. Dari angket respon yang disebar, hampir seluruhnya memberikan tanggapan positif. Adapun tanggapan yang dirasakan kurang adalah pada permasalahan mengakses kahoot atau akses internet yang kadang terganggu.

The implementation of the policy to schools designated as pilot projects, including SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pontianak, have a minimal socialization and training. The problems revealed in this study are the implementation of text-based Indonesian language learning in SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pontianak, involving the implementation at the level of learning plan, the development of teaching materials, the implementation of learning, and assessment of learning. This research data collected by document technique, observation, and interview. From the results of data analysis conducted descriptively concluded that the implementation of text-based Indonesian language learning in SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Pontianak is not optimal. At the level of lesson plan, the description of its activities has not fully reflected the characteristics of text-based learning, in the development of teaching materials even though there has been an attempt to use contextual text but there is still theoretical material. At the level of implementation of learning, text-based learning steps are not implemented optimally, while the assessment of the results (products) many are done through the task at home.

Most of them discussed about the implementation of using technology in learning process. This paper is aimed to promote integrated learning with digital as media, to infuse local wisdom awareness inside the material, and to encourage value in the character building to the students’ activity. The method used descriptive qualitative which employed distinguish documents analysis to the process of teaching and learning. Documents analysis was chosen to evaluate the lesson plans, learning materials, students’ worksheet, and teacher reflection sheet. The participants of the study were an English teacher and students in a senior high school. The result shows that teacher has been designing the lesson plan and materials for learning descriptive text about tourism places integrative with the national curriculum, the students’ process on analysing the text has shown positive impacts. It is suggested for teacher to cultivate the critical thinking and character building into classroom activity.

Keywords: Intrinsic elements, moral values, short film, Piper. Abstract: Literature is a term used to describe written and sometimes spoken material (Lombardi, 2017). Intrinsic elements and moral values have important role in literature. Quinn (2006: 243, as cited in Kusumaningrum, 2013) argued that literature is usually understood to refer to “creative” works in the form of poetry, fiction, and drama. Disney Pixar’s short film ‘Piper” is included into fiction, so it can be a media for analyzing those elements. Therefore, the aims of this study are to find out the intrinsic elements, moral values, and interesting scene in Disney Pixar’s short film “Piper”. This study applied a descriptive qualitative method. Qualitative descriptive studies offer a comprehensive summary of an event in the everyday terms of those events (Maxwell, 1992, as cited in Azhari, 2017). Meanwhile, the data were gathered through analyzing the video of Disney Pixar’s “Piper” from Youtube by watching the short film. Thus, this study used document analysis as an instrument. From the study, it was found that there are five intrinsic elements that appeared in Disney Pixar’s Short Film ”Piper”, those are theme, plot, character, setting, and point of view. In addition, this short film has moral values that can remind and motivate its viewers in facing their lives. It also shows the interesting scene that can entertain the viewers. In conclusion, this short story contains intrinsic elements and moral values, also presents the interesting scene. It is suggested that all of literature works, especially short film, can be a research material so that the process of investigation fun.

[email protected] Kata Kunci: mantra, patahunan, Dayak Kanayatn Abstrak: Penelitian upacara adat patuhunan Dayak Kanayatn dimaksudkan untuk mendeskripsikan aktivitas-aktivitas patahunan yang di dalamnya mantra difungsikan. Metode penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Data penelitian adalah pembacaan mantra, ciri-ciri mantra, dan nilai-nilai budaya yang tercermin dalam mantra patahunan dengan teknik pengumpulan data studi dukomenter. Hasil penelitian adalah pembacaan mantra untuk memohon berkat, keselamatan manusia dan lingkungan, bersyukur, dan menghormati para leluhur. Ciri-ciri mantra dalam upacara adat patahunan ditinjau dari aspek struktur mencakup: 1) bahasa: mencakup diksi berupa ungkapan-ungkapan, seruan, pronomina; 2) bahasa figuratif: metafora dan personifikasi; 3) pengulangan: kata, pembilangan, frasa; 4) pengucapan, mantra patahunan dengan nada sedang berirama; 5) Bentuk dalam mantra patahunan terdiri atas pembukaan, penghormatan kepada leluhur, pernyataan, seruan, dan penutup. 6) Bentuk luar /visual mantra patahunan berupa prosa naratif berirama, namun tidak terikat permainan bunyi/sajak. Bentuknya agak kompleks sehingga kecenderungan berbentuk bebas. Nilai-nilai budaya yang tercermin dalam upacara adat patahunan adalah: nilai ketuhanan, nilai hormat kepada leluhur, nilai kebersamaan, nilai belas kasih, nilai pertobatan, nilai kepasrahan.

Key Words: Pauses, Speech Production, Student, Panel Discussion, Psycholinguistic Abstract: This research aims to identify, classify, and describe the types, distribution, and cause and effect of the pause speech in Panel Discussion of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Students of FKIP Untan in the Public Speech subject in 2017. Method used in this research was descriptive in form of qualitative with psycholinguistic approach. The research data sources were phonemes, words, phrases, and paused sentences. Paused speech data inventory was 555 times. These paused speeches data inventory were explained based on psycholinguistic concept, i.e. seeing language concept in individual’s mental process in the speech, particularly in the production. Therefore, the researcher presented the research data in form of paused speech production along with the time, theme, subject, and frequency. Based on the research result, it is found six types of pauses, namely silenct pause, filled pauses, progressive refrain, false starts, elongation, and pauses combination. The pauses may occur before the speech, in the speech, and in the word. The pauses occurs because the speaker does not master the topic, has cognitive restraint, and hasty or nervous. The pause causes the speaker to be unconfident toward his/her speech.

Kata kunci: kemampuan memahami bacaan Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untukmengetahui kemampuan siswa SMP Negeri 9 Pontianak memahami bacaan. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi rendahnya minat siswa dalam pembelajaran memahami bacaan. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kuantitatif. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 9 Pontianak berjumlah 56 orang siswa. Data dalam penelitian ini adalah hasil tes memahami bacaan yakni pemahaman tingkat faktual, tingkat interpretatif, dan tingkat aplikatif. Teknik yang digunakan dalam pengumpulan data adalah teknik tes. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menentukan rerata kemampuan memahami bacaan siswa.Berdasarkan pembahasan hasil penelitian diketahui bahwa kemampuan membaca siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 9 Pontianak tahun 2017 memahami bacaan tingkat faktual rata-rata 82,85 nilai yang paling tinggi adalah 100 dan nilai yang paling rendah adalah 40,00. Nilai tingkat interpretatif rata-rata 58,83 nilai yang tertinggi adalah 80,00 dan nilai terendah 40,00. Nilai tingkat aplikatif rata-rata 74,46 nilai yang tertinggiadalah 80,00 dan terendah 30,00. Secara keseluruhan dapat disimpulkan bahwa nilai rata-rata kemampuan memahami bacaan siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 9 Pontianak tahun 2017 yakni 72,04 termasuk kategori cukup karena berada pada interval (56–75). KKM mata pelajaran bahasa Indonesia 75, berarti kemapuan ini belum mencapai KKM mata pelajaran bahasa Indonesia yang telah ditetapkan oleh pihak sekolah. Oleh karena itu, sebaiknya guru membimbing siswa secara intensif dalam membaca pemahaman, menggunakan metode yang tepat sesuai dengan karakter materi pembelajaran membaca..

Abstrak: Film dianggap sebagai media komunikasi yang ampuh terhadap massa yang menjadi sasarannya, karena sifatnya yang audio visual, yaitu gambar dan suara yang hidup. Dengan gambar dan suara, film mampu bercerita banyak dalam waktu singkat. Ketika menonton film penonton seakan-akan dapat menembus ruang dan waktu yang dapat menceritakan kehidupan dan bahkan dapat mempengaruhi audiens. Film mengandung simbol-simbol dari kenyataan yang sering diangkat dan dibangun oleh media adalah tentang feminisme.Feminisme cukup berpengaruh pada budaya populer. Ini bisa diketahui dari sekian banyakfilmyang mengusung tema feminisme.Penelitian ini ingin mengetahui bagaimana pembangunan film feminisme di IndonesiaYaitu dalam film Marlina Si Pembunuh dalam empat babak. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan menggunakan metode analisis wacana kritis, dengan mengadopsi model Sara Mills. Model ini diadopsi karena menyesuaikanobjek penelitian dalam bentuk film. Dengan melakukan analisis dua tingkat, yaitu tingkat mikro dan tingkat makro, diperoleh hasil bahwa ada konstruksi feminisme dalam film Marlina si Pembunuh dalam empat babak. Dalam analisis level mikro ditemukan aspek tema, setting, karakter, dialog dan kostum. Dalam analisis level makro sitemukan aspek-aspek yang digunakan yaitu digunakannya berbagai sapaan yang menunjukan kontek sosial dalam film ini. Sedangkan konstruksi feminisme yang ditemukan memperlihatkan perjuangan wanita dalam melindungi dirinya.

Kata Kunci: berpikir deduktif induktif, pemahaman, teks argumentasi Abstrak: Penelitian korelasi antara berpikir deduktif dan induktif terhadap pemahaman teks argumentasi pada mahasiswa sangat penting untuk dilakukan. Hal ini disebabkan karena dengan mengetahui bagaimana sifat korelasi dan peran variabel berpikir deduktif dan induktif dalam pemahaman teks, maka kegiatan membaca dan pemahaman teks dapat lebih dipahami sebagai akktivitas yang penting. Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjawab permasalahan dan kesulitan yang timbul dalam proses pemahaman teks argumentasi dan menjadi pijakan dalam aktivitas belajar mengajar.Masalah umum dalam penelitian ini adalah “Bagaimana korelasi antara berpikir deduktif dan induktif dengan pemahaman teks argumentasi pada mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastra Indonesia FKIP Untan?” Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian adalah metode deskriptif. Bentuk penelitian ini adalah penelitian kuantitatif. Rancangan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah rancangan penelitian deskriptif korelasional. Berdasarkan hasil uji hipotesis dan pembahasan hasil penelitian, dapat disimpulkankemampuan berpikir deduktif dan induktif mahasiswa semester I angkatan 2016/2017 kelas A dan B yaitu 46,50%. Oleh karena itu, perolehan nilai rata-rata kemampuan berpikir deduktif dan induktif mahasiswa semester I angkatan 2016/2017 kelas A dan B berkategori “kurang”. Berdasarkan data kemampuan pemahaman terhadap teks argumentasi, didapat hasil secara keseluruhan kemampuan memahami teks argumentasi pada mahasiswa semester I angkatan 2016/2017 kelas A dan B adalah 62,9% dengan kategori “cukup”. Terdapat hubungan yang positif dan signifikan antara kemampuan berpikir deduktif induktif dengan kemampuan memahami teks argumentasi karena hasil pengujian thitung > ttabel atau 2,254 > 2,000. Artinya, hipotesis nol (Ho) ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima.

Taking this into account, this study aims to investigate the representation of modality in the newspaper articles about the Middle-East issues, encompassing what types of modality are employed, how the types of modality are manifested, and what their functions of expressions are. The data are collected from an Indonesian English newspaper, The Jakarta Post, analyzed under the umbrella of qualitative research. Five appealing articles related to the aims of this study are purposively chosen in order to be able to address all the research questions. To assist in analyzing the data, the framework of the mood and modality system proposed by Halliday&Matthiessen (2004) is employed. The analysis reveals the depictions of the use of modality, the way types of modality are realized, and their general functions to express mood and modality, seen from this Indonesian English newspaper. Hence, from these findings, the modality patterns of use in English newspapers can be discovered, particularly in Indonesia contexts.

Derasnya arus globalisasi dikhawatirkan anak berdampak pada terkikisnya rasa kecintaan terhadap budaya lokal. Agar eksistensi budaya lokal tetap kukuh, maka kepada generasi penerus bangsa perlu ditanamkan rasa cinta terhadap budaya daerah. Salah satu cara yang dapat ditempuh guru di sekolah adalah dengan cara mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai kearifan lokal dalam proses pembelajaran di sekolah. Dengan mengintegrasikan nilai-nilai kearifan lokal ke dalam pembelajaran diharapkan nasionalisme siswa akan tetap kukuh terjaga di tengah-tengah derasnya arus globalisasi.Mengenai Integrasi Teknologi dalam kehidupan saat ini mengubah hubungan kita dengan informasi dan pengetahuan tak terkecuali di bidang pendidikan. Penggunaan Teknologi menawarkan peluang yang begitu banyak jumlahnya, sehingga dapat mengarah pada pengalaman belajar yang lebih baik dan lebih menarik.Dari permasalahan tersebut penulis akan mengkaji lebih lanjut mengenai apakah di Indonesia pendidikan lebih diutamakan atau justru sebaliknya, dan juga bagaimana pemerintah dan instansi pendidikan meingkatka kualitas siswa dan mahasiswa dalam mencerdaskan kehidupan berbangsa dan bernegara. Penelitian yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah spesifikasi penelitian. Metode pendekatan yang digunakan adalah Pendekatan Perundang – undangan, Pendekatan Kasus, dan Pendekatan Kebijakan, selanjutnya tahap penelitian melalui studi kepustakaan dan teknik pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini dilakukan dengan cara Studi Literatur, artinya tidak menggunakan rumusan dari Buku – Buku mengenai pentingnya pendidikan sehingga dihasilkan informasi baru dari simpulan hasil penelitian. Hasil Penelitian yang di dapat adalah dalam menghadapi derasnya aruss globalisasi sekarang ini kepada siswa dan mahasiswa perlu ditanamkan nilai-nilai nasionalisme. Penanaman nilai-nilai nasionalisme ini diharapkan akan mampu membentuk peserta didik yang memiliki rasa cinta terhadap budaya lokalnya sehingga tidak terkikis dengan derasnya arus globalisasi sekarang ini, dan Proses internalisasi nilai dalam pembelajaran Teknologi dapat ditranformasikan dengan melakukan pembudayaan di lingkungan sekolah dengan mengintegrasikan pendidikan nilai dalam bahan ajar dan tidak melupakan kearifan lokal sehingga pembiasaan, penugasan, dan keteladanan menjadi bagian yang integral, berkarakter, beretika, dan holistik, yang secara terus menerus menjadi bagian yang dipelajari, dipahami, diamalkan dalam kehidupan sehari-hari.

Pendidikan multikultural merupakan suatu konsep yang menyatakan bahwa seluruh peserta didik tanpa memperhatikan dari kelompok mana berasal, seperti gender, etnik, budaya, kelas sosial, agama, diharapkan dapat memeroleh pengalaman pendidikan yang sama di sekolah atau lembaga pendidikan. Melalui pendidikan berbasis multikultural, sikap dan pemikiran siswa lebih terbuka untuk memahami dan menghargai keberagaman. Satu diantara pembelajaran yang dapat diterapkan untuk menanamkan sikap tersebut adalah pembelajaran sastra. Pembelajaran sastra dimaksudkan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa mengapresiasi karya sastra. Kegiatan mengapresiasi penalaran, dan daya khayal, serta kepekaan terhadap masyarakat, budaya, dan lingkungan hidup. Diharapkan siswa mampu menikmati, menghayati, memahami, dan memanfaatkan karya sastra untuk mengembangkan kepribadian, memperluas wawasan kehidupan, serta meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kemampuan berbahasa. Membaca karya sastra akan membantu siswa menjadi manusia berbudaya yang responsif terhadap nilai-nilai luhur dalam kehidupan bermasyarakat. Siswa yang berbudaya demikian diharapkan menjadi manusia yang agung namun tetap sederhana, bebas tetapi mengontrol diri, kuat tetapi penuh kelembutan. Contoh kasus konpflik yang terjadi di Kalimantan Barat pada tahun 1997 semoga tidak terjadi lagi.

Kata Kunci: Prosedur Stimulasi, Pembelajaran, Mengamati Teks Absrak: Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kenyataan bahwa, proses pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia berdasarkan kurikulum 2013 itu menggunakan pendekatan saintifik dan berbasis teks. Idealnya guru bahasa Indonesia menciptakan iklim pembelajaran tertentu misalkan menerapkan prosedur stimulasi sebelum kegiatan mengamati atau membaca teks dilakukan oleh peserta didik. Apakah prosedur stimulasi itu diterapkan oleh guru dan bagaimanakan tahap penerapan dan realisasi penerapan prosedur stimulasi oleh guru bahasa Indonesia, menjadi masalah yang menarik untuk diteliti.Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui dan mendeskripsikan penerapan prosedur stimulasi dalam kegiatan pembelajaran mengamati teks oleh guru bahasa Indonesia SMA Negeri 9 Kota Pontianak, yang diteliti pada tahun pelajaran 2017 Masalah penelitian ini berkaitan dengan prosedur stimulasi yang idealnya dilaksanakan oleh guru bahasa Indonesia sebelum peserta didik melakukan kegiatan mengamati teks. Dapat saja terjadi prosedur stimulasi itu sudah diterapkan oleh guru tetapi penerapannya belum berjalan secara efektif. Rumusan masalah umum penelitian ini adalah, apakah prosedur stimulasi dalam pembelajaran mengamati teks diterapkan oleh guru bahasa Indonesia SMA Negeri 9 Kota Pontianak? Fokus masalah penelitian adalah, (1) bagaimanakah tahapan penerapan prosedur stimulasi dalam pembelajaran mengamati teks oleh guru bahasa Indonesia SMA negeri 9 kota Pontianak?, (2) bagaimanakah realisasi penerapan prosedur stimulasi dalam pembelajaran mengamati teks oleh guru bahasa Indonesia SMA Negeri 9 Kota Pontianak? Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode deskriptif, (Bogdan dan Biklen. 1990; Moleong, 1991)) yang dirancang dalam bentuk penelitian kualitatif, dengan teknik observasi langsung dan komunikasi langsung melalui wawancara. Instrumen penelitian berupa pedoman observasi, daftar wawancara, tape recorfer, kamera foto, dan peneliti sebagai instrumen kunci. Sumber data ditentukan secara purposive,dan dilakukan uji kredibilitas terhadap data (Sugiyono, 2012:270-274) terutama pada triangulasi sumber dan teknik. Data diolah dan dianalisis dengan model interaktif dari Miles dan Huberman (1992) berupa (1) reduksi data, (2) penyajian data, dan (3) penyimpulan/ verifikasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, guru bahasa Indonesia SMA Negeri 9 Kota Pontianak yang mengajar di kelas X, tahun pelajaran 2017 sudah menerapkan prosedur stimulasi secara efektif sebelum peserta didik membaca teks. Penerapan prosedur stimulasi oleh guru berdampak pada munculnya kondisi “siap baca” teks pada peserta didik.

Untuk mewujudkan pendidikan multikultural yang dapat meningkatkan mutu pendidikan, dibutuhkan beberapa program yang menunjang ke arah tersebut, antara lain a) Lembaga Pendidikan dapat menjadi pusat pengembangan budaya, baik budaya lokal maupun budaya nasional. Peserta didik diperkenalkan dengan budaya sejak dini sehingga budaya yang tumbuh di lingkungan mereka dapat berkembang dan dilestarikan; b) Kurikulum yang dapat menampung kekhasan dan kearifan budaya lokal hendaknya sangat dibutuhkan. Setiap daerah mengembangkan kurikulum muatan lokal; c) Tenaga-tenaga guru yang berpandangan luas dan memahami kebudayaan di Nusantara. d) Media massa juga turut berpartisipasi dalam penyebaran informasi budaya tersebut. Program acara yang menonjolkan kekhasan budaya harus lebih sering ditampilkan; e) Perpustakaan di setiap desa juga harus didirikan untuk memperkenalkan dan melestarikan budaya dan kehidupan sosial yang mendiami daerah tersebut. Peran bahasa sebagai penghela ilmu pengetahuan diorientasikan pada pembelajaran berbasis teks yang diramu dalam pembelajaran multikultural.

Abstrak: Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh pentingnya dilakukan penggalian terhadap pengetahuan lokal yang dimiliki oleh masyarakat Dayak Kanayatn sebab pengetahuan lokal memungkinkan masyarakat mengelola kehidupannya secara berkesinambungan. Pengetahuan lokal berisi unsur kecerdasan, kreativitas, dan produktivitas yang menjadi faktor penentu dalam pembangunan peradaban suatu komunitas. Mengingat pentingnya peranan pengetahuan lokal dalam hidup bermasyarakat, peneliti memandang perlu melakukan penelitian secara lebih intensif terhadap pengetahuan lokal yang dimiliki oleh komunitas Dayak Kanayatn. Korpus kajian dalam penelitian ini adalah Cerita Ne’ Baruakng Kulup yang tergolong sebagai legenda epik. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pengetahuan lokal yang terdapat dalam cerita Ne’ Baruakng Kulup. Teori-teori yang digunakan untuk mendukung analisis data adalah teori cerita rakyat, kearifan lokal, pengetahuan lokal, dan pendekatan hermeneutika. Metode yang dipilih adalah metode deskriptif berbentuk kualitatif dan pendekatan hermeneutika. Sumber data adalah cerita Ne’ Baruakng Kulup dan data dalam penelitian ini adalah pengetahuan lokal yang tercermin melalui kata, frasa, dan kalimat-kalimat yang terdapat dalam cerita Ne’ Baruakng Kulup. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa pengetahuan lokal masyarakat Dayak Kanayatn yang terdapat dalam cerita Ne’ Baruakng Kulup berjumlah 10 buah. Kesepuluh buah pengetahuan lokal tersebut diklasifikasikan ke dalam empat kategori, yaitu: (1) yang berkaitan dengan mata pencaharian (bertani/berladang); (2) yang berkaitan dengan kesehatan (baliatn);
(3) yang
berkaitan dengan tradisi dan adat-istiadat (tradisi berkhitan, tradisi mengayau, upacara notokng, adat perkawinan, dan adat perceraian); dan (4) yang berkaitan dengan kepercayaan warisan (Jubata, kekuatan gaib, dan tariu).

Pembelajaran yang bersifat tradisional dirasa sudah tidak relevan lagi dengan zaman sekarang. Sebaliknya, pembelajaran berbasis teknologi lah yang dianjurkan. Dalam hal ini diperlukan kreativitas dalam memilih media pembelajaran yang lebih menarik. Clarisketch merupakan salah satu media berbasis teknologi tersebut. Clarisketch menggabungkan antara gambar, suara, dan kreativitas penggunanya. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu deskriptif. Media Clarisketch ini diimplementasikan dalam pembuatan jenis karangan yang berbasis kearifan lokal yaitu menyisipkan unsur lokal Cianjur pada bahan ajar bahasa Indonesia. Topik yang dibahas mengenai tempat wisata, tempat bersejarah, kuliner, kerajinan dan budidaya, falsafah dan budaya, serta mitos. Dari hasil penelitian diperoleh simpulan bahwa pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia berbasis kearifan lokal dengan menggunakan media Clarisketch membuat pembelajaran menarik, kreatif, informatif, mendapatkan respon positif, dan pembelajaran lebih bermakna.

Kata kunci: Suryakancana, Semiotika, Tanda, dan Budaya Abstrak: Tulisan ini dilatarbelakangi suatu kajian pada kata Suryakanacana dengan tujuan utama memahami fenomena budaya masyarakat apa yang terdapat di balik kata tersebut. Tentu saja hal itu didasari oleh pemahaman bahwa bahasa atau kata bermuatan budaya. Selain itu, tentu saja yang menjadi krangka dasar adalah apa yang dikemukakan oleh Hoed mengenai Semiotik dan budaya, dan secara teknis mengacu pada konsep yang dikemukakan Saussure tentang tanda, serta Barthes yang menjalinkan berbahasa dengan fenomena sehingga termaknai sebagai pandangan masyarakat atau budaya masyarakat. Pendekatan semiotika merupakan pijakan dalam kajian ini, oleh karena itu paradigma metogologinya adalah kualitatif. Adapun metode yang digunakan berupa deskripsi analisis dengan teknik yang masih bersifat dasar yaitu dokumentasi dan observasi, karena data yang digunakan baru berupa teks verbal dan visual. Dokumentasi digunakan dalam hal informasi data yang berupa teks, sementara observasi digunakan dalam melihat fenomena budaya masyarakat. Berdasarkan temuan kajian, terdapat tanda (suryakancana). Tanda memiliki penanda dan petanda. Petanda mengarah pada kode budaya. Pada tanda, secara struktur bahasa, Suryakancana memiliki penanda yang berupa huruf S-u-r-y-a-k-a-n-c-a-na, dan petandanya berupa tokoh mulia yang hidup secara gaib/halus dan sangat sakti, arif dan bijaksana, menggambarkan keberutungan dan kekuasaan Tokoh sebagai petanda, memiliki makna yang secara tidak langsung berdasar pada konvensi tektual atau kontektual atau dengan istilah Barthes konotasi. Kesimpulan penelitian, bahwa suatu kata bermuatan budaya demikian juga dengan Suryakancana. Suryakancana selain sebagai kata berpenanda fonologis juga berpetanda pada budaya dan pandangan masyarakat.

Abstrak: Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mendeskripsikan penerapan teori Struktural-Antropologi Levi-Strauss dalam cerita-cerita padi dari daerah Banyumas, daerah Bali, dan daerah Jawa Barat; (2) mendeskripsikan simbol-simbol dalam cerita padi; (3) merancang pembelajaran sastra berbasis kearifan lokal. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu metode deskriptifanalitis dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah cerita-cerita padi dari berbagai daerah yang terdapat dalam buku “Tjerita Rakjat I” terbitan Balai Pustaka tahun 1963 yang terdiri atas 21 cerita, namun yang berkaitan dengan cerita padi hanya 7 cerita. Adapun cerita padi yang dijadikan sumber data adalah Cerita Padi dari Banyumas (diceritakan kembali oleh Suwandi), Cerita Padi dari Daerah Bali (diceritakan kembali oleh A.A.G. Raka), dan Cerita Padi dari Daerah Jawa Barat (yang diceritakan kembali oleh Soepanto). Hal-hal yang tergambar antara lain: (a) keteraturan semesta; (b) sistem mata pencaharian; (c) teknologi, baik untuk senjata, pekerjaan, kesenian, dan alat pemakaman; (d) sistem pemerintahan; (e) sistem organisasi sosial; (f) sistem religi dan kepercayaan. Adapun simbol-simbol yang tergambar dan ditafsirkan antara lain: (a) simbol warna; (b) simbol telur dan Widji Widajat; (c) simbol Dewi Sri; (d) simbol lembu; (e) simbol raja.

Abstract: This study entitled “The analysis of Politeness In Asking For Help Expression Based on Gender In Pragmatics Perspective”. Firstly, this study aimed to know kinds of politeness strategies appeared based on gender in asking for help. Secondly, to know the differences of politeness differences between gender. And thirdly, to know the differences of politeness based on level. The methodology of this study using qualitative method. The main data was obtained through Discourse Completion task that involving ten students (five female, and five male) of the fifth semester students of English Education Study Program of Suryakancana University. And there additional data from observation and interview to complete the research. Based on the data, shown that 7 of 10 students are understand about politeness. In detail, there are 5 of 5 female, and 2 of 5 male who understand politeness. From 10 situations that have been provided, founded that 7 of 10 studenst are include to positive politeness based on situations. In detail, there are 3 of 5 female students, and 4 of 5 male students that include to positive politeness.

Vocabulary is important for students’ skill. This research aims to find out the used of Hello English application in teaching vocabulary, the obstacles in implementing Hello English application and the students’ responses in the process of implementing Hello English application. This research is using Hello English application to teach vocabulary for junior high school. Qualitative descriptive
research was applied and three data collection techniques were chosen such as
observation, survey/questionnaire, and interview. The first result in this study is in implementing the application, teacher divided the activities into three section, those are opening, main activities, and closing. The second is there are some obstacles that teacher got when implemented the application and the third is how students response to the implementation of the Hello English application. The research was carried out in MTs Nurul Jihad with 5 students as a subject in the study.

Abstract: The objective of research is to find out the percentages of students’ understanding about idiomatical expressions and to find out the students’ knowledge in using idiomatical expressions for third grade of English Education Study Program of Suryakancana University in 2017. Marlies (1995) said thatan idiom is an expression whose overall figurative meaning cannot be derived from the meaning of its parts.According to Cooper (1999), idiomatic expressions understanding study presents a special language problem for all language learners because the figurative meaning is unpredictable.Method have been used in this research is qualitative research.Qualitative research is a research on descriptive research and tend to use analysis. Proses and meaning (subject perspective) or more highlighted in qualitative research. Theoretical basis in used as a guide to focus the research in accordance with the facts in the field. The sample of research were thirty one participants, the thirty one participants were third grade of college students of the University. Questionnaires and test were used as the instruments of the research. First of all, questionnaires were given to the student in the form of close questionnaires. The result shows that in understanding of idiomatical expressions of test are 19,40 % of students are categorized into very good category, 29 % of students are categorized into good category. 41,90 % of students are categorized into fair category, 6,50% of students are categorized into low category and 1,20% of students are categorized into very low category. Based on the questionnaires, the researcher can conclude that students’ knowledge of idiomatical expression are 45% of students are categorized into very good category, 52% of students are categorized into good category, 3% of students are categorized into fair category, for low category and very low category are 0%.

This phenomenon facilitates people to express their feeling by posting one or more pictures with a caption that can interest people to like or follow. As an English Education Students, making caption in English can support them to practice their knowledge in using the right form of word, phrase, clause, sentence, or even paragraph in English. This paper analyses the usage of tenses in English Education Students’ instagram caption. Qualitative method is used in this research with observation and document analysis instruments. This research found that the most misused tense in English Education students’ Instagram caption is Simple Present Tense. It also happens for the most used tense. The students use tense for their Instagram caption to express their feeling or the description of the photo or video they are going to upload.

The aim of this study, to see if 4d apps can give a good development to students, and then whether with this application can be facilitate for students who use. The method used in this research is in place of course with application about 4D application in adding vocabulary.This study aims to develop students' potential in learning English, and then by using digital media to facilitate students in finding new vocabulary in using the application.therefore digital media or animal 4D applications are very helpful to students, even though animal learning has been mostly students who know it.and attracted interested students, the digital media of the app while displaying animal learning, much like the original animal and its unique sound. Update student vocabulary through 4D smartphone app, in English learning. This media is very useful and also necessary for the learning process more interesting for students, make it easier to understand through this media. This study also conducts interviews, thus knowing what the students say according to their individual needs. And not just interviews but who we as researchers. This findings, the examine with document analysis and in accompanied by observation, with this taught method, it will be more fun and useful, and the students can feel the different learning atmosphere with the previous, so it will be faster to add vocabulary and pronunciation.

As we know that teacher needs to use a lot of interesting method in order to increase students’ listening skills. One of medias that teacher can use is “LyricsTraining” application. LyricsTraining application is an easy and fun way to learn and improving listening skills, especially in pronunciation, adding vocabulary, and expression through the music videos. This is very different from the typical listening exercises in language classes, where the pronunciation is too perfect, which is not entirely practical in a real environment. Therefore, this study aims to describe the advantages of LyricsTraining in teaching listening skills to high school students, and explaining about the use of LyricTraining and how to implementing it in teaching listening skills. The method that will used in this research is qualitative method which is the data were collected through the observations, interviews, and questionnaires, were validated by triangulation of sources and analyzed. The result of the research are teachers does not need to do that anymore because in this applications they got the blank space where students need to fill it by listening and fill in the blank. The advantages for students is they can learn English with fun way and teacher does not need to bring a lot of things to the classroom. With and can easier get students attention. The difficulties that will happened if used this application are It’s not easy to use this application to teach if the student does not have a phone, and if there is no internet connections. It’s also not easy to use it if the students does not know how to use phone.

Keywords: simple mind- writing-descriptive text-young learners Abstract: Technology nowadays give a significant role in education , besides writing descriptive text without a media become something that make students feel difficult in writing. With the use of media in writing learning is believed to help facilitate students in writing. One of many media that can used in teaching is simple mind application which offers solution in teaching English for young learner especially in teaching writing. The objectives of this research are to knowthe implementation of simple mind application in learning writing descriptive text, the benefits of using simple mind application in learning writing descriptive text, and also the obstacles in learning writing descriptive text using simple mind application. This research using a qualitative method and involved five participants from seventh grade of MTs Nurul Jihad Al Musri Sukaluyu Cianjur, Indonesia. The data were collected through observation, and interviews. The results showed that using simple mind application helps the students to expand their idea when writing descriptive text, the benefits of using simple mind also felt student easier when writing descriptive text. However there are some obstacles in using simple mind are some students got confusion in using simple mind besauseof students’ limited knowledge in operating mobile phone and application.

Abstract: Communications is one of the most important thing that human do in their daily activity. Sometimes they do not realize what they are talking in daily activity. It is same with situation in the movie. They always communicate with each other. To make a good communicate they should follow the rules of cooperative principles.It is can look from people who violated in their conversation and people who obey in their conversation. This research focuses in identifying the types of conversational maxim which are violated by the characters in the movie of “marmutmerahjambu”. Besides, this research also aims to analyze the flouted of each conversational maxim in the movie of“marmutmerahjambu”. The type of violation of conversational maxim is analyzed based on Cooperative Principle proposed by Grice. This research uses qualitative research method with identifying dialogueevery characters in “marmutmerahjambu”with audio and subtitle ofthe movie as additional helps for analyze the violations of maxims in every characters in “marmutmerahjambu” movie.a Types of conversational maxim violated in the movie of marmutmerahjambu are maxim of quantity, maxim of quality, maxim of relation, and maxim of manner. The findings showed that therewere fourmaxims flouted in the conversations of “marmut merah jambu” movie. There are 38 of maxims that flouted in marmut merah jambu movie, that is 9 maxim of quantity, 5 maxim of quality, 14 maxim of relation and 10 maxim of manner.

Writing is important for students because writing can helps students though. Padlet application is some of social media that can make students easier to understand, beside that to introduce media enable for support in teaching writing for submit students’ assignment. This research aims to find out the implementation of padlet application in teaching writing a descriptive texts, the strength and weakness when using the application and the the students’ response when using the application.. Qualitative research was applied and three data collection techniques were chosen such as classroom observation, open-ended questionnaire, and guidance interview. The research was carried out in SMK ASHABULYAMIN CIANJUR at 11 class with 20 students as a subject in the research. The result showed that mostly students never know the padlet application and the students know when the researcher introduces the padlet application. So, the teacher should extra effort to apply the aplication in teaching learning activities. The strength using Padlet application in teaching descriptive text, such as the students more easy to gathering their assignment about descriptive text, more efficience, the padlet application is very simple. The weakness when using padlet application in teaching descriptive text that it takes a long time to operate the padlet application, not all students have smartphones or laptops to do their tasks. From fiveteen students, mostly their respond is positive when using padlet application in learning descriptive text.

Abstract: This research is the report of an investigation about university students’ skill in using citation in academic writing.“ Academic writing is one of some skill that should student university mastery, academic writing is related to citation. According to English Oxford Living Dictionaries, citation is a quotation from or reference to a book, paper, or author, especially in a scholarly work.”. Citation is very important especially in academic writing, because to avoid plagiarism. As we know that, now the case of plagiarism is often occurs among students’. This is supported by Arizona State University that “academic integrity, student cheating and plagiarism are concerns of the utmost importance to university faculty, administrators, writing center and tutoring staff, librarians and academic advisors. So, students should always cite other people's words, ideas and other intellectual property that they use in they papers or that influence they ideas.”. This research utilizes qualitative method, and the data gained from open-ended questionnaire and document analysis. This study conducted in Suryakancana University and involved of 10 university students’. This research aims to find out university students’ skill in using citation in academic writing, to find out the obstacles of university students’ when citing in academic writing, and also to find out how do they cope the citing obstacle in academic writing. The result show that unfortunately student university skill is low in academic writing citation, the respondents still have less skill in write citation from another source except book , it can be prove by the data that researcher found, there are so many errors that respondents do, especially when they cite from journal, from book with author more than two authors from article and from magazine. The obstacles that respondent mention in write citation in academic writing are when they create citation with author more than two, cite from journal, magazine, and also the respondents still confuse with the use of punctuation. To cope the obstacles respondents use internet, and also ask the other one.
