Queenslander Exterior Colour Scheme #1: Soft Neutral When it comes to Queenslander exterior colour schemes, people typically go with traditional schemes. These include whites, pale greys, soft biscuits, and light neutrals
with subtle green undertones. These colours add to the traditional aesthetic of Queenslanders and are enduring classics. While grey Queenslander exterior colours remain popular due to their versatility and classic look, we have moved away from cool greys. Warmer, softer ‘greige’ shades have replaced them, and sandy beiges have become more popular.
The new warm greys and sandy beiges work perfectly as Queenslander exterior colour schemes on homes with natural stone or timber exterior elements. White accents and trims complement warm neutral weatherboards and highlight the classic architectural details of a Queenslander. Remember, if you’re picking out features of your home with a darker or lighter colour, make sure it’s in the right tonal family so it looks clean and elegant against the main colour. Colour consultants are experts at this.
Queenslander Exterior Colour Scheme #2: Coastal White For a brighter traditional look, white is an eternal favourite. You really can’t go wrong with white weatherboards and charcoal trim which is perennially chic and sophisticated, or an ‘all white’ colour scheme in coastal or tropical settings. The coastal ‘all-white’ aesthetic is still on trend in 2026, but the bright whites have shifted to softer, warmer tones complemented by natural materials like stone and light timbers. The new coastal (Hamptons) style is more visually calm and serene. Allwhite schemes look best on Queenslanders with strong architectural lines or decorative features as these add texture. An all-white scheme can also soften and unify any pronounced features of your home, making the surrounding greenery stand out.

Queenslander Exterior Colour Scheme #3: Dark and Dramatic Black-and-white monochrome schemes are always in fashion. How we use these two colours changes, but there’s no doubt this classic partnership works beautifully for Queenslander exterior colour schemes. Dark inky or oceanic blue weatherboards balanced with white trim is also a stylish choice. Using two or three dark tones together (without any white) can make a confident statement on a modernised Queenslander, but should be balanced with warm timbers, tiles and lighting. Dark exterior colour schemes can look luxurious and provide a great backdrop for tropical greenery, but they can make your house hot and require premium heat-reflective paint.

Queenslander Exterior Colour Scheme #4: Earthy, Nature-Inspired A palette of grounded earthy tones inspired by nature works well as a Queenslander exterior colour scheme. Playing up the landscape around your home with earthy colours will give it a natural, calming feel and help your home blend comfortably with its surroundings. Last decade, earthy exterior house colours took a back seat to cool greys and whites, but earthy tones are well and truly back. In 2026, the key is to use muddier versions of natural colours to give your home’s exterior a more sophisticated look. Earthy greens like deep olives, muted sage greens, moss and eucalyptus can look great on Queenslanders.
Queenslander Exterior Door Colours Neutral, white and dark Queenslander exteriors all provide the perfect backdrop for pops of colour. Vibrant accent colours for doors add personality and emphasise details. In 2026, designers are favouring rich, comforting accent colours like deep dark teal, clay, terracotta, muted orange, mustard, and grape. They exude warmth and welcome and are perfect for updating a traditional neutral colour if you don’t want to do a full repaint. If you’re using a burst of colour to stand out in your Queenslander’s exterior colour scheme, keep it to a small but strong element so it doesn’t overwhelm.
The Dulux 2026 Colour Forecast palettes below can be a great inspiration for your Queenslander’s exterior colour scheme, with neutrals matched to accent colours in each palette.
