Lab Text: D.L. Pavia, G.M. Lampman, G.S. Kriz, and R.G. Engel, Introduction to Organic Laboratory Techniques: A Small Scale Approach (GMU edition), 2011. Lab Manual: S.W. Slayden, R.J. Roth, and W.M. Stalick, Laboratory Manual Organic Chemistry 315,318, 2015. Lecture Text: T.W.G. Solomons, C.B. Fryhle, and S.A. Snyder, Organic Chemistry, 12th edition, 2016.
The procedures for most experiments are in the Lab Manual. If a procedure appears in both the Lab Text (Pavia) and the Lab Manual, the procedure in the Lab Manual will be used. Chem 314 lecture is a pre- or co-requisite for Chem 318 lab. You must obtain at least a C in Chem 313 and Chem 315 before you take Chem 318. If you previously took Chem 314, you must have at least a C in it to use it as a pre-requisite for Chem 318. If you drop or withdraw from Chem 314, you must also drop/withdraw from Chem 318. Add, drop, and selective withdrawal deadlines can be found at http://registrar.gmu.edu
Policies for Chemistry 318 (grading, safety, notebook format, etc.) appear in the Lab Manual on pages 1-21. These will be supplemented by your lab instructor. It is the responsibility of all students to be familiar with and adhere to the GMU Honor Code. Date
