Leading Health Innova ons: The Women Driving Change in Arab World
I
n 2014, Lynn Barghout Jafar’s world was forever changed when her eldest daughter, Alia, was born and soon after diagnosed with CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder, a rare, complex neurogenetic condition which causes refractory epilepsy and severe motor and cognitive developmental challenges, with most patients unable to walk or talk and needing round the clock care. That diagnosis transformed the course of their lives in ways no one could have anticipated. As a mother, Lynn first sought to obtain superior therapies and care solutions for her daughter’s development but struggled at that time to find both centralized attention and specialized comprehensive services that were needed. In searching for these, she and her family learned the emotional and logistical complexity of caring for a special needs’ child. The situation she faced made Lynn choose to take control of the matter. A profound motherly devotion to her daughter ignited a mission within Lynn which became the foundation for transforming her family’s destiny and developing a care facility helping numerous other children. To build a comprehensive facility that would provide one-stop integrated care for children with complex special needs Lynn founded High Hopes Pediatric Therapy Center in Dubai. She made this strategic choice to establish High Hopes not solely to meet medical needs but also to establish an environment where families could receive specialized therapy along with essential emotional and practical guidance. Precise planning went into the center because it aimed to address the feelings of isolation that characterizes the special needs experience. Throughout her journey Lynn established High Hopes to ensure parents and children would always have the support they needed to navigate this path together. Let’s learn how one mother’s vision became a sanctuary for families facing the challenges of raising children with complex needs!
specialists. The experience of searching for suitable services for Alia established the basis for High Hopes. “I didn’t want other families to go through the same struggles,” Lynn says. “I realized that if I could create something that would make the process easier, more accessible, and more effective, I would be doing something meaningful not just for my own daughter, but for all families going through similar challenges.” High Hopes emerged as a concept resulting from that fundamental vision. To fulfill its purpose the center established its mission which involved delivering premium therapeutic services through combined treatment approaches designed specifically for individual child requirements. Since its establishment the center has grown into a well-established space where families find comfort to access different treatments including physiotherapy alongside occupational therapy speech and language therapy and applied behavior analysis (ABA) along with various other services in one convenient spot. Filling the Gap for Children with Special Needs When Alia was diagnosed, Lynn saw that healthcare services failed to meet the needs of children who needed complex specialized medical attention. Despite having skilled specialists in the area children struggled to access comprehensive care, which their holistic requirements demanded because professionals lacked interdisciplinary collaboration. She learned that each child needed specialized care from multiple practitioners, yet this type of integrated approach was still lacking during that period. “The gap was clear,” she explains. “Children with complex needs needed more than just one kind of therapy. They needed a team of professionals working together, not in isolation. The idea was to create a place where these services could work in harmony, so every child’s development could be supported in every area—physically, mentally, emotionally.”
The Birth of High Hopes Lynn started her mission to create High Hopes by developing it through her own life experience. Facing Alia’s diagnosis presented her with the stark absence of unified services necessary to support a child in her condition in just one facility. Each clinician or therapist expert provided essential pieces to the holistic care puzzle but no professional could piece together the complete picture. Thus, the family had to journey across the city to various
The interdisciplinary approach at High Hopes ensures that children are treated holistically, with every therapist working together to understand the child’s full development, adapt to their needs as they grow, and collaborate on the most effective treatment plan possible. At High Hopes, the child is at the center, but the family is always part of the equation too.

Children with complex needs needed more than just one kind of therapy. They needed a team of professionals working together, not in isola on.

Being Alia’s mom has completely shaped how I view therapy and what High Hopes is all about.
‘‘‘‘
A Mother’s Perspective Shaping the Vision Lynn’s personal experience as a mother of a child with a complex medical condition has been a guiding force in shaping the operations and philosophy of the center. “Being Alia’s mom has completely shaped how I view therapy and what High Hopes is all about,” she shares. “It’s one thing to read about therapies and interventions in books, but it’s another to live through the emotional highs and lows of a child’s developmental journey. It gives you a completely different perspective on what’s needed and what families truly require.” As a mother, Lynn understood the emotional toll that seeking help for a child with special needs can have. She knew that families often feel overwhelmed, isolated, and unsure about where to turn for help. “At High Hopes, we’re not just providing therapy; we’re creating a safe space where families can feel heard and supported. This is a place where parents can come and know that they’re not alone.” Lynn’s journey wasn’t just about setting up a therapy center; it was about creating a sanctuary for families where they could find not only the treatment but also the emotional understanding they needed. It was about offering hope to parents who, like her, felt desperate at times, but who were also determined to see their children succeed. Facing Challenges and Overcoming Obstacles Establishing a specialized therapy center in the UAE required the resolution of diverse operational challenges. The immediate priority was acquiring experts whose technical expertise matched their capability to empathize with children dealing with complex difficulties. To Lynn it was important that every therapist shared her passion and vision for providing comprehensive care. “Finding the right people was key,” she recalls. “It’s not just about being technically skilled. You need people who are truly compassionate and dedicated to the children and families. We were very particular about building a team who shared the same values and vision for what High Hopes could be.” Raising awareness about early intervention was another challenge. When the pediatric center first opened its doors, many families didn’t fully understand the importance of starting therapy early. As Lynn explains, “Early intervention is so crucial, but parents didn’t always realize how much of a difference it could make in a child’s life. We had to
educate them, empower them to seek help sooner rather than later.” Despite these challenges, High Hopes found a way to make an impact in the community. Lynn credits the support from the UAE healthcare system and local families for helping to overcome many of the hurdles that came with starting a new initiative. “The leadership and government of the UAE has created an extremely supportive environment for children like Alia and their families, and the whole community has been incredibly supportive. We are so grateful for how welcoming and understanding people have been.” Inspiring Success Stories The impact of High Hopes is evident in the success stories of the children and families who have walked through its doors. One such story is that of Théo, a little boy diagnosed with neonatal epilepsy just two days after birth. His parents were initially told to expect developmental delays, but after coming to the pediatric center they saw miraculous progress. “Théo’s story is one that stays with me,” Lynn says. “In less than four sessions, he was sitting up with minimal support, and his torticollis was completely gone. To see such dramatic improvement in such a short amount of time was incredibly fulfilling for all of us.” Another inspiring success story is that of Gaia, a baby born with a clubfoot. Her parents, unsure of what the future held,
placed their trust in High Hopes when Gaia was just 2.5 weeks old. Through a combination of in-center therapy and at-home exercises, Gaia made remarkable progress. By five months old, it was as though she had never faced any challenges at all. “These stories are the heart of what we do,” she says. “We believe in the power of hope, care, and dedication. Every family that walks through our doors is a part of our journey, and their successes are ours to celebrate.” The Future of High Hopes
“We’re excited about the future,” she says. “There’s so much more we can do for these children and families. We want to keep evolving, expanding our reach, and incorporating new technologies that can help our kids progress even faster and more effectively.” But even as High Hopes grows, one thing will always remain at the core: the commitment to providing a loving, supportive environment where every family can feel empowered and hopeful about their child’s future. A Message to Aspiring Women in Healthcare For other women in the Arab world who aspire to make a difference in healthcare and social services, Lynn has a simple yet powerful message: “Believe in your vision, take

Dr. Brenda McLaughlin Boldly Reshaping Maternal and Pediatric Care for a New Generation
W
hat does the future of healthcare leadership look like? For Dr. Brenda McLaughlin, Chief Medical Officer at Kanad Hospital, it’s a future characterized by resilient healthcare that adapts to changing needs and challenges everything the medical sector knows. Through her commander-like fusion of clinical know-how with leadership vision Dr. McLaughlin drove Kanad Hospital to new heights by resolving critical modern healthcare challenges.
What inspired you to transition from obstetrics and gynecology to a leadership role in healthcare administration? My passion for medicine remains strong, and I continue to dedicate half of my time to clinical work. I deeply value the opportunity to connect with women throughout their prenatal, labor, and postnatal journeys. While celebrating childbirth is one of the most rewarding aspects of my work, providing support during times of loss is equally meaningful.
The path that led Dr. McLaughlin to her role as CMO developed organically. Her leadership characteristics emerged from her talent to identify critical times that required direction and her readiness to eliminate boundaries by accepting uncharted roles. As a leader holding a crucial role within UAE healthcare Dr. McLaughlin reinvents traditional approaches to medical leadership. Her experience shows us that authentic transformation emerges from radical visionary thinking instead of protecting established systems.
In 2015, there was a pressing need for a Chief Medical Officer at Kanad Hospital. I felt a strong calling to serve where I was most needed, which at the time was in an administrative capacity. Although I had always envisioned leading my department, I had not specifically aspired to become CMO. However, when the opportunity arose and I recognized how I could contribute, I embraced the transition.
Let’s delve into the interview details below!
As a woman in a leadership position, what unique perspectives do you bring to your role as Chief Medical Officer?
Can you tell us about your journey to become the Chief Medical Officer at Kanad Hospital?
I would not necessarily say that my perspective is different solely because I am a woman. However, over the past decade, our executive leadership team has undergone changes, and at any given time, there have only been two or, at most, three women on the team—accounting for about one-third of the leadership. Diversity in leadership is crucial, and I believe my presence helps foster a more balanced and inclusive decision-making process.
I joined Kanad Hospital in 2010 as a member of the Obstetrics and Gynecology department. Over the years, I gradually took on more leadership responsibilities within the department, eventually becoming the Head of Department. In 2015, when the position of Chief Medical Officer became available, I was honored to transition into this role, leveraging my clinical and administrative experience to contribute to the hospital at a higher level.

How has your experience working in the UAE influenced your approach to healthcare management?
What are some of the key challenges you’ve faced in implementing new policies and best practices at Kanad Hospital?
The Department of Health in Abu Dhabi has evolved significantly over the past 15 years, and I have actively participated in that transformation. I have contributed to various task forces and assisted in drafting healthcare policies and standards. Just today, for instance, I was reviewing upcoming standards for postpartum care.
At Kanad Hospital we have been able to achieve success by implementing new policies that are in line with international best practive. However, one of the biggest challenges is achieving consensus among physicians regarding standardized care. Within my current department, we have physicians from at least eight different countries, each trained in distinct healthcare systems. Aligning everyone to a unified standard of care and ensuring consistent practice is a continuous effort. Standardization is critical to providing high-quality, evidence-based care, but achieving it in such a diverse setting requires persistence and collaboration.
With a diverse medical workforce in the UAE, comprising physicians trained in different healthcare systems worldwide, it is essential to incorporate diverse perspectives in policy development. This dynamic environment has strengthened my ability to collaborate, adapt, and implement best practices from multiple healthcare models.

To sustain both my professional and personal well-being, I prioritize time for activities outside of work, such as travel, SCUBA diving, triathlons, Bible study, and church. I also make it a point to take short breaks—at least three days every few months—to recharge. Additionally, unless I am on call, I ensure I get 7.5 hours of sleep each night, which is essential for maintaining energy and focus.
One of the best pieces of advice I received before moving here was: "Be exible, and in this way, you will not break.”
What advice would you give to young women aspiring to leadership roles in healthcare in the Arab world? This is an exciting time of growth and change in the region, but with growth comes challenges. Aspiring leaders must be prepared to work hard and navigate evolving landscapes. One of the best pieces of advice I received before moving here was: “Be flexible, and in this way, you will not break.”
“
This wisdom has stayed with me, and I find myself repeating it at least once a month. Adaptability, resilience, and a willingness to embrace change are key qualities for success in leadership, especially in the dynamic field of healthcare.
Can you share an example of an innovative initiative you’ve spearheaded that has significantly improved patient care? One initiative I introduced at Kanad Hospital is a structured system for escalating concerns within the organization. Given our multicultural workforce, some staff members hesitate to voice concerns. Even with this initiative, many remain reluctant, but I continue to encourage its use. The system I implemented is called ARCC, which stands for: • • • •
About Kanad Hospital Kanad Hospital (formerly Oasis Hospital) was founded in 1960 by Drs. Pat and Marian Kennedy at the request of His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. As a not-for-profit institution owned by True Sojourners, a U.S.-based humanitarian organization, Kanad remains committed to providing compassionate, highquality care for women, children, and families. It was the first hospital in the Abu Dhabi Emirate and the first private hospital in the region to achieve Joint Commission International (JCI) accreditation.
Ask a clarifying question Request a change State that you have a concern Chain of Command – escalate the issue if necessary.
This framework provides staff with a clear, structured approach to raising concerns, fostering a culture of open communication and patient safety.
Globally recognized for excellence in obstetric and pediatric care, Kanad was also the world’s first hospital to receive JCI Clinical Care Program Certifications for both its Respiratory Distress Syndrome treatment program in newborns and its Natural Birth After Cesarean Section program for mothers. Dedicated to advancing healthcare in Al Ain, UAE, Kanad Hospital is honored to serve the community with expertise, innovation, and unwavering care.
How do you balance the demands of your role as Chief Medical Officer with your ongoing work in obstetrics and gynecology? I strive to maintain a balance of 50% clinical work and 50% administrative responsibilities. However, in reality, it often feels like I am managing 60% in each area. The more important question, perhaps, is how I maintain work-life balance.

Pediatric Physical TherapySupports Kids with Motor Challenges

Steps to Strength
C
hildren naturally explore their environment through their physical movement in order to achieve interaction with their surroundings. The capability of certain children to engage in everyday tasks and social encounters faces constraints due to their motor impairments. Physical therapy for children with motor challenges functions as the key solution for providing better independence through overcoming obstacles. Physical therapists develop individualized strategies which help children strengthen their bodies while improving coordination and gaining self-assurance. The process of pediatric physical therapy treatment reveals how it advances both physical growth and developmental progress of children. Defining Pediatric Motor Challenges Motor impairment in a child may be caused by an infinite variety of etiologies including congenital illness, developmental delay, neurological illness, or trauma. Among the more frequent conditions which may require pediatric physical therapy are cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, Down syndrome, spina bifida, and autism spectrum disorder. Impairment can be gross motor, i.e., walking or jumping, or fine motor, i.e., object grasping or writing. Early detection of motor skill delays is significant in a bid to enable children to receive the intervention that they need. Pediatricians and parents and caregivers are generally able to notice whether a child is struggling to sit, crawl, or walk. Such delay is assessed by pediatric physical therapists, who create individualized treatment plans that are formulated with the intent of targeting the special needs of the specific individual. Step 1: Thorough Assessment The first test is the first process of physical therapy in a child. Complete tests are performed by physical therapists to gather information about the weakness and strength of a child and the motor function as a whole. Assessment might just be looking at a child move, muscle strength and flexibility, and tests for balance and coordination. Normative tests might also be performed to test for motor ability, weakness and strength. The assessment not only engages participation but also incorporates parents and guardians in order to keep them informed of the child's daily life, problems, and dreams.

home, e.g., balance exercise on a pillow or infant tummy time, can reinforce activity learned in a therapy session.
Step 2: Goal Setting
Continuous improvement is fostered by continuous communication between families and therapists. Ongoing home exercise programs and feedback enable parents to contribute to their child's improvement outside the clinic.
Following evaluation, measurable and attainable objectives are set mutually by the therapists and the family. The child's age, goal of desired outcome, and ability of the child are good objectives. For instance, one toddler would be rehearsing walking by himself or herself and another toddler would be rehearsing balancing in order to engage in a game.
Step 5: Progress Monitoring and Adjustments The development of child physical therapy is gradual and patience is needed, but dedication is absolute. Therapists are also constantly tracking development in a child and make the necessary adjustments in therapy schedules. Developmental landmarks are tracked through the process that forms the center of encouragement as well as a child's self-confidence.
Objectives give a means of gauging improvement and encouraging. By breaking big objectives into tiny but achievable ones, kids feel successful in the process. Step 3: Individualized Treatment Plans
When there is an emergent issue or when emergent issues arise, therapists will modify interventions to meet emergent needs. Being flexible is always introducing change and maintaining the therapy ever-efficient since the child continues to develop.
Because each child is unique, pediatric physical therapy is extremely individualized. Treatment programs consist of many various techniques and activities that help build motor skills, strength, and coordination. The following modes of intervention are employed:
The Emotional Impact of Pediatric Physical Therapy • •
•
•
•
Strength: Endurance and resistance training of the muscles. e.g., squats, climbing, resistance bands. Balance and Coordination Exercises: Body development activities of coordination and balance exercises, e.g., one-leg standing and walking or obstacle training. Stretching and Flexibility Exercises: Slowly done stretching exercises to facilitate smooth movement of the ranges and prevent muscle spasms. Gait Training: Therapeutic rehabilitation to enhance walk patterns, i.e., the utilization of braces or assistive aids. Sensory Integration Activities: Play that allows the child to integrate sensory information in a way that makes it meaningful for movement and coordination. Play therapy methods are used by therapists from time to time to talk to children, play while recalling early motor skills. Play equipment, interactive toys, and games make therapy an inspiring fun session.
Besides physical development, pediatric physical therapy also leads to social and emotional development of the child. Gaining new skills is the source of independence and confidence and makes children more helpful to school life, home, and society integration. Perseverance and determination, the basis on which long-term confidence development is established, are acquired in the treatment process. - Natalie May
Step 4: Parent and Caregiver Involvement Parents and caregivers also play an important role in the success of pediatric physical therapy. Parents and caregivers are taught and educated to include therapy activities in a child's daily routine. Daily routine, as a simple exercise at

As a medical leader in the digital health industry how do you see digital patient monitoring transforming cancer care, particularly in light of the improved overall survival rates observed in clinical studies? Digital health is undoubtedly the future of healthcare. It offers tremendous potential in terms of patient monitoring and enhancing healthcare accessibility. Through digital tools, we can facilitate real-time monitoring of patients’ conditions, enabling healthcare professionals to intervene proactively. This model saves time and empowers patients to manage their health, take ownership of their disease, and ultimately improve their outcomes. By creating more accessible and simplified healthcare experiences, we are paving the way for better, more efficient cancer and health care. Can you share some key challenges and breakthroughs from your experience in the digital health industry? One of the most significant challenges is patient adoption of digital health tools. It can be difficult for some individuals to transition from traditional healthcare models to digital platforms. However, the COVID-19 pandemic forced a rapid shift, and many patients became more accustomed to remote care. Despite this, the need for personal touch remains, and maintaining patient adherence to digital health solutions remains an ongoing challenge.
Women often excel at considering the broader picture and paying attention to small, but crucial, details—qualities that are essential when developing patient-centric solutions. I believe this holistic approach, combined with scienti c rigor, is fundamental to the success of healthcare digital solutions.
Furthermore, continuously evolving and updating the app to stay relevant and beneficial for both healthcare providers and patients is a key for success. and empowered. Medical devices and applications now offer real-time monitoring, predictive analytics, and personalized treatment plans that allow patients to actively participate in their care. By focusing on intuitive interfaces and minimizing false alarms or unnecessary alerts, these innovations help reduce anxiety and uncertainty.
Moovcare® has shown significant benefits, including increased overall survival and reduced hospitalizations. How do you envision scaling these benefits across different healthcare systems, particularly in the Arab world?
From my experience in the field this balance of technical sophistication and patient-friendly design is crucial in creating an experience that fosters both confidence and control, enabling patients to manage their health with greater peace of mind and autonomy.
Scaling Moovcare®’s benefits to different healthcare systems, particularly in the Arab world, requires a thoughtful, region-specific approach. The application has the potential to bridge healthcare access gaps, particularly in areas with fewer healthcare resources. By providing a solution that enables remote monitoring and early detection, we can improve patient outcomes while reducing the strain on healthcare facilities. Our strategy includes partnering with local healthcare organizations to ensure that Moovcare® is culturally relevant, accessible, and aligns with the unique healthcare needs of each region.
Looking ahead, what emerging technologies or trends in digital health do you believe will have the most significant impact on cancer care? We are entering an era of personalized medicine, where each patient’s treatment should be tailored to their unique profile, including their genetic makeup, lifestyle, and medical history. As a clinician, I see firsthand how individualized treatment can drastically improve outcomes. We are already witnessing this in oncology, where personalized digital solutions can offer more precise monitoring and adjustments to treatment plans. I believe that personalized digital health tools, which take into account the nuances of each patient, will be crucial in transforming cancer care. Moving forward, integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning with patient data to create truly individualized treatment regimens will be a game-changer in the healthcare industry.
As a woman leader in the health tech industry, what unique perspectives do you bring to your role and how do you see this influencing the company’s approach to innovation? Women often excel at considering the broader picture and paying attention to small, but crucial, details—qualities that are essential when developing patient-centric solutions. I believe this holistic approach, combined with scientific rigor, is fundamental to the success of healthcare digital solutions. My perspective allows me to drive innovation with a focus on patient well-being, ensuring that our solutions are not only scientifically effective but also emotionally and psychologically supportive for patients. ach child possesses distinctive attributes and developmental characteristics and unique challenges. Special needs children benefit strongly from developmental therapy which assists their development toward maximal potential achievement. This particular therapy type works to develop cognitive functioning together with social skills and emotions along with motor coordination while providing specific support to each student according to their individual needs. The following article describes the fundamentals of developmental therapy while examining its specialized care for children with developmental disabilities. What is Developmental Therapy?
The health care program known as developmental therapy helps children with developmental disabilities through early intervention services. A child's developmental therapy targets essential fields such as speech and language together with fine and gross motor skills and social-emotional growth and cognitive abilities and adaptive skills. A developmental therapist conducts an ability assessment to build custom methods which guide children through daily activities. Developmental therapy adopts a complete method which differs from specialized interventions like speech therapy or occupational therapy. The approach provides wide-ranging support for child growth and typically functions with other therapy programs to build complete assistance networks. Who Benefits from Developmental Therapy? Children who struggle with social interactions, emotional regulation, problem-solving, and motor skills can also benefit from developmental therapy. Early intervention is key, as research shows that addressing developmental delays as early as possible leads to better long-term outcomes.
Children who face difficulties in social communication along with emotional balancing, problem-solving tasks and motor coordination need the help of developmental therapy. The best results from therapy emerge when intervention occurs at a young age because scientists found that treating developmental delays promptly produces superior longterm results.
The Role of a Developmental Therapist A developmental therapist utilizes family participation to establish personalized treatment plans which match individual requirements of each child. Developmental therapists receive their training either in child development, psychology, special education, or a related educational field. Their role involves:

Supports Cognitive and Problem-Solving Skills Developmental delays require supplemental support for how children process information while they reason and solve decisions. Therapy activities enable assessment of thinking as well as development of memory and problem-solving capabilities which support everyday life functions.
4.
The Importance of Early Intervention Studies prove that early intervention produces superior outcomes for affected children with delays since treatment starts at an earlier stage. Educational treatments provided during early intervention periods create substantial improvements in acquisition of learning skills along with communication and interpersonal capabilities in children. Immediate professional guidance is needed when parents observe developmental delays in their children because such intervention helps children get proper supportive services.
Encourages Independence and Adaptive Skills Developmental therapy serves the main objective of teaching necessary skills which create opportunities for independence. The therapy includes instructions for basic self-care actions including dressing, feeding and following schedules to increase client participation in their activities.
5.
Developmental assessments enable therapists to determine both the abilities and disabilities of children. Professional therapists develop goals for their child patients through assessments that establish tailored targets which maintain validity and drive results. A child's personal interests should be included in therapy to create both meaningful and successful sessions. Therapy techniques require modification throughout time based on the developmental progress of the child while addressing new emerging difficulties. Parental involvement serves as a therapeutic foundation because they both support therapy learning at home and offer important information about their child’s everyday experiences.
Conclusion The therapeutic method of developmental therapy provides necessary skills for life to children who have special requirements. The creation of a supportive environment for children takes place through therapists who develop individualized plans for social and emotional development along with cognitive growth and motor skills. Through early intervention and custom-made strategies performed with family involvement, developmental therapy enables children to maximize their capabilities for meaningful life success.
Integrates Well with Other Therapies The treatment approach of developmental therapy supports the work of other therapies including speech therapy and occupational therapy as well as physical therapy. Therapists unite their efforts to provide a child a comprehensive and consistent development that spans throughout all areas of progress.

This vision materialized in December 2019 with the establishment of Circle Care Clinic.

As a Paediatrician, CEO, and Founder of Circle Care Clinic, she has dedicated her life to revolutionizing the delivery of healthcare to families in the region. Dr. Rania goes beyond treatment to help parents gain both knowledge and confidence for their and their children's health to receive top quality care.
However, just three months after the launch, the clinic faced an unforeseen challenge—the COVID-19 pandemic. With curfews in place and a widespread fear of in-person consultations, the clinic had to pivot quickly. But amidst all this, Dr. Rania proactively utilized social media, providing reliable updates on COVID-19 and educating the public on the safety protocols implemented at Circle Care Clinic. Her approach not only reassured patients but also led to a steady increase in patient numbers, helping the clinic navigate through uncertain times.

Following this, she pursued her dream of becoming a paediatrician, through extensive paediatric training programmes. Training within the UK’s National Health Service (NHS) provided her with invaluable experience in dealing with diverse medical cases. Reflecting on her time in the NHS, she says, “The two things I learnt the most in that setting and which continue to anchor me and inform my work ethic are: humility and empathy – without which, I believe, a doctor is unable to truly deliver a complete service to their patients.”
Overcoming Challenges in Healthcare Running a medical practice comes with its fair share of challenges. Apart from the difficulties caused by the pandemic, Dr. Rania highlights the ongoing challenge of maintaining the highest standards of care across all departments. Recruiting exceptional healthcare professionals and fostering a culture of continuous learning has been key to overcoming these obstacles. “Regular training, team building and educational events help cement our relationship with each other so we continue to work as one team, focused on delivering the best patient care we can,” she shares.
