How Important Is It to Choose the Right Bird Cages and the Proper Location?
When you decided to bring home a parrot, you were more than sure you did not think that bird cages were a topic you needed to think about so much. In fact, it is, and everything related to a pet is an important topic, no matter its species or breed. For example, the first thing you need to think about when you bring home a feathered pet is the type of crate you buy. Of course, if you choose a parrot, then you will need a large bird cage, while for a canary, a smaller model will do the job.
Bird Cages Are an Important Topic Having feathered species as pets is just amazing and as nice as it is, the entire experience is memorable, but a pet is a responsibility. One crucial thing about having birds around the house is the place where they live, more specifically, their crate. Choosing the right bird cages is often overlooked but it should not be, especially when setting up. As a parrot, canary, or any other species owner, you need to make sure that you set up the crate safely. That also means choosing the right location, as this is something important, too.
Choose a Comfortable, Large Bird Cage
There are several important factors that any feathered species needs to consider when it goes searching for crates. You cannot go into a pet store, ask for a large bird cage, pay for it, and take it home. Maybe you do not need one or maybe you get the right model, but it is better to know what you need. First, you need to make sure that what you choose will be a safe and comfortable environment. It is not only about the model but also its location, which is why you need to be careful what you choose. You need to choose a model that will fit into the space you have designed for that specific purpose. It can become pretty confusing what to choose because in pet stores there are different bird cages, one more attractive than the other. What you need to understand that it does not matter that you choose the most beautiful crate. What you need to go for is the one that fulfils the needs of your pet. That means that for starters, you need to consider your pet’s size. The crate’s size needs to be adapted to that. Size matters a lot when it comes to this topic, and specialists in this field usually recommend considering the space you have available. Go for a large bird cage as big as the space you have available. Of course, do not get one like half of the room if you can afford it. On a more serious note, think of it like this: multiply by three the wingspan of your feathered pet. As for the crate’s width, just multiply it by 2,5. This works and it is something tried by more than one feathered species owner.
Bar Spacing Is Something to Be Considered If you decided on the dimensions of the crate, the second important thing about bird cages is the distance between their bars. This is pretty simple. As long as you get one that you are sure your pet cannot squeeze through, you choose well. This is all you need to think about, your feathered friend, so that it does not get injured in any way. Look for a model with smaller gaps between the bars so that there is no risk for injury or death. That also goes for the material the crate is made of. No matter whether you choose a small or a large bird cage be sure to get one made from nontoxic materials. Birds are usually pretty curious and they like exploring with their beaks. If they ingest zinc or lead, for example, they can be harmed, so do not buy a crate made from these materials. The safety of your pet is the first thing you need to consider which is why you need to get off the list everything that can harm them. That will make your choice much easier. Plus, you can go away from home without worrying that something might happen. Regarding their safety, locks are also something to keep in mind. Birds can escape so easily and they are pretty good at trying and succeeding. That is why the bird cages you look at must have good locking mechanisms. Birds are pretty clever at figuring out how to open a lock which is why you need to make sure that you get one that will not open easily. Most of the feathered species are very intelligent and their dexterity often amazes humans. Knowing this, be sure that you thoroughly check the latches to be sturdy.
Choose a Model That Is Easy to Clean It is understandable why you would be attracted to a large bird cage that looks more sophisticated and maybe modern. But this is not what should be your choosing criteria. Another thing to consider besides the things above is how easy it is to clean the crate you choose. That is why you should look for a model that has easily removable trays and that you have easy access to. This way, you will be able to clean the crate more often and your pet will have a clean environment to live in. Something important to remember is that bird cages need to be placed in certain places. An ideal location would be one away from sunlight. Yes, sunlight is great for birds but too much exposure can cause overheating and harm your pet. Just place the crate where your pet can enjoy the gentle rays of the sun, without too much exposure. Never consider placing the crate in the kitchen. That is the place where you cook and all those smells are not recommended for a bird. Just place it in another room where the air is fresh and clean.
