Guidelines For The Submission of Application For An Import permit
Documents issued by the appropriate authority in the exporting country and/or in the country of origin acceptable by the Permanent Secretary as an evidence that the vehicle is not a stolen one. 10. Payment of a fee. (a) The Permanent Secretary may on good cause shown by the importer in respect of controlled goods already imported, grant an import permit subject to the payment by the importer to the Accountant-General of a fee of –
submission of a certificate of inspection carried out by the local branch of Bureau Veritas or Société Générale de Surveillance or any local inspection body acceptable by the Permanent Secretary.
11. Who are Importers?

Exempted
Exempted importers are those who are exempted from the payment of the fee as stipulated at paragraph 10 above and are listed as at Parts I and II of the Eighth Schedule to the Regulations. *Annexures are available at the Import
25,000 rupees in the case of a second-hand motor vehicle; and 5,000 rupees in the case of any controlled goods.
(b) Where an importer fails to furnish the Inspection Certificate as required under the Fifth Schedule, the Permanent Secretary shall grant an approval to the importer subject to the payment of a fee of 15,000 rupees to the AccountantGeneral;

1. Application for an import permit The submission of an application and issue of an import permit is carried out electronically under the TradeNet Phase 5 System. Application for import permit is needed only for controlled goods.
4. How to apply for an import permit? Application for import permit is submitted electronically through the service of a TradeNet User. The three categories of TradeNet Users who submit applications electronically using their own computer system are –
2. What are controlled goods? Controlled goods are goods that are listed as per the First Schedule to the Consumer Protection (Control of Imports) Regulations 1999. A list of controlled goods is at Annex I*. 3. Who can good?

Any individual or a registered company can apply for an import permit to import controlled goods. The application for an import permit submitted electronically must be followed by the following documents –
a photocopy of the National Identity Card or the Certificate of Incorporation of the applicant as the case may be if application is made in respect of a secondhand motor vehicle; a photocopy of the appropriate Trading Licence of the applicant if controlled goods are imported for the first time for resale.
Clearing and Forwarding Agents Commission Agents; and Customs Brokers. Any company or individual wishing to submit their own applicatilons electronically have to register themselves with the Mauritius Network Services Ltd.(MNS). 5. What documents are needed for approval of import permit? The list of controlled goods that need supporting documents i.e. approval/recommendations from other Ministries are at Annex II*. 6. What conditions are attached to import permits? The conditions attached to certain controlled goods are at Annex III*.

What are prohibited goods? “Prohibited goods” means the goods specified in the Second Schedule of the Regulations that are not allowed for importation. The list of prohibited goods are at Annex V*. 9. What happens when the controlled goods reach Mauritius? The importers have to submit a copy of the commercial invoice and a copy of the bill of lading or an airway bill or a postal receipt or a notice of arrival of goods issued by an organisation providing a courrier service at the counter of the Import Division. In case of second-hand motor vehicles, they have to submit together with the invoice and bill of lading the following documents Registration Certificate of the vehicle; Inspection Certificate; and

(b)
A valid certificate of conformity with the National Standard of the country of origin, issued by a recognised body, should be submitted to the Ministry prior to the importation of the tubes and hoses.
(a)
A valid Kimberley Process Certificate issued by the appropriate authority of the exporting country shall be submitted to the Ministry, prior to the clearance of the diamonds from the Customs.
(b)
The certificate specified at paragraph (a) shall be a forgery-resistant document that meets the requirements of the Kimberley Process International Certification Scheme for rough diamonds.
(c)
The rough diamonds shall be imported in a sealed tamper-proof container accompanied by a duly authenticated copy of the certificate specified at paragraph (a)
(d)
