Reshaping How France Learns
L
earning no longer happens only within four walls and a bell schedule. It moves with us—on trains, over coffee breaks, across devices. It speaks in multiple languages, adapts to diverse needs, and reaches places it once never could. What was once rigid and standardized is now fluid, personalized, and—most importantly—accessible. Education has stepped off the podium and into the palms of millions, leveling the field for those who've long been left on the sidelines. This special edition, "France's Top 5 Promising EdTech Companies to Watch in 2025," shines a light on the disruptors and dreamers reshaping how France learns. These are the companies asking better questions, building smarter solutions, and turning bold ideas into meaningful impact. Whether they're refining AI tutors, crafting gamified modules, or offering scalable tools for lifelong learners, each of these innovators represents a fresh chapter in the story of French education. This issue was born out of a simple but powerful idea: to recognize ambition that doesn't just chase growth, but growth that uplifts learning. We wanted to highlight those who aren't replicating models—they're rewriting them. Not for headlines, but for real human progress. These companies aren't solving yesterday's problems; they're solving for what's next—where skills meet curiosity, and curiosity meets possibility. The future of education won't be delivered in neat packages. It will be lived out in micro-moments, shaped by data, powered by empathy, and driven by learners themselves. The question is no longer if education will evolve, but how thoughtfully we choose to shape it. If these five EdTech leaders are any indication, France isn't just keeping pace—it's poised to lead.

hey say Chinese is the hardest language in the world. To most ears, it sounds like a warning, an intricate script of thousands of characters, a tonal maze where one syllable can mean ten different things. Parents often shy away, and teachers feel unprepared. The perception is so widespread, it's become a quiet consensus: Chinese is just too difficult. But what if that belief isn't rooted in the language itself, but in how it's been taught? Jennifer Huang looked at the so-called hardest language and thought—Children deserve better. What began as a personal mission to help her twin daughters, Hila and Luna, learn Chinese joyfully while growing up in France soon grew into something far more impactful. With an engineer's logic, a marketer's insight, and a mother's instinct, she founded hihilulu—a platform built not to simplify the language, but to unlock it.

A Pioneering Force in the EdTech Space With a background in engineering, an MBA, and experience in international marketing, consulting, and as the CEO of a London-based tech startup, Jennifer recognized the potential of leveraging digital technology and pedagogical precision to address the gaps in Chinese language education for non-native speakers. Driven by this vision, she quickly assembled a crosscontinental team in France and China to build the first beta version of a digital streaming platform. This led to the launch of the mobile application Learn Chinese hihilulu, designed to immerse young children in Chinese at home through engaging content and effective methodology. Unexpectedly, the platform's first major client was a Montessori school in Paris. After years of struggling with traditional Chinese teaching methods, the school turned to hihilulu as an innovative solution. This milestone prompted Jennifer to reassess the broader demand within the private education sector, eventually leading to the development of hihilulu Atelier®—a web-based platform tailored specifically for schools. Making Chinese Child's Play Chinese is often seen as difficult, but Jennifer, founder of hihilulu, believes the real issue lies in outdated teaching methods. Unlike traditional approaches, hihilulu uses a science-backed, dual-structured method that separates speaking from character learning and taps into how children's brains develop. “Children under 12 use both brain hemispheres for language,” Jennifer explains. “That's our chance to fully engage them—especially with a tonal, characterbased language like Chinese.” Studies also show that learning Chinese boosts memory, problem-solving, and early literacy. For Jennifer, hihilulu is more than language—it's about unlocking cognitive and cultural potential. “Our

Our mission is to make Chinese not only learnable, but lovable. mission is to make Chinese not only learnable, but lovable.” A Smarter Framework for Language Learning At the heart of hihilulu's pedagogy lies the Dualism Theory—a fundamental departure from the widely used Monism approach in Chinese language education. Dualism treats oral communication and character literacy as two distinct, equally important learning streams. Most traditional methods attempt to teach speaking and reading Chinese simultaneously, often overwhelming young learners. hihilulu's method respects the linguistic complexity of Chinese and approaches it more like how children learn their first language: speaking comes first, writing follows. "Words are based on sounds, while characters are built on meaning," Jennifer says, echoing the insights of renowned Sinologist Prof. Joël Bellassen, whose work heavily influenced the hihilulu model. By differentiating between these two systems, hihilulu enables children

to first become confident in spoken Chinese, then gradually introduce the visual system of Chinese characters, making the journey more intuitive and less frustrating. The Snowballing Method Another signature element of hihilulu's approach is the Snowballing Method, which introduces children to Chinese through a set of 125 core visual components—the building blocks from which thousands of characters are constructed. Chinese characters are not random symbols; they are logical puzzles formed from semantic and phonetic components. For instance, the component for “sun” (日) combined with “moon” (月) creates the character for “bright” (明). Add “white” (白) to “bright,” and you get the verb “to understand” (明白). This layered structure is the foundation of the Snowballing Method. By focusing on highfrequency, high-recurrence components, hihilulu helps children quickly grasp the rules

of character formation, enabling them to decode unfamiliar characters as they progress. The benefits of this method are substantial: • • •
It helps learners understand the internal logic of the language. It supports memory retention through visual and phonetic mnemonics. It fosters independent learning by empowering children to decipher new characters on their own.
According to Jennifer, “It's like giving kids a map before they enter the maze. Once they understand how the components connect, they no longer feel lost in a sea of symbols—they start to recognize patterns and build vocabulary naturally.”
012
Designing for Young Minds For Jennifer, ensuring that hihilulu stays both pedagogically rigorous and irresistibly engaging is a delicate balance, but one she and her team have mastered with care. While originally focused on ages 3 to 12—the golden window for language learning—hihilulu has expanded to include learners up to 14 in response to school demand. The curriculum now offers two levels for ages 3–6, five for 6–11, and one for 12+, with two more in development. Rooted in learning science, hihilulu uses immersive exposure, scaffolded progression, and its proprietary Snowballing Method, which introduces Chinese characters in a cumulative,

brain-friendly sequence. But rigor alone isn't enough—so hihilulu blends education with fun through gamification, storytelling, and interactive visuals that spark curiosity and sustain attention. Personalized feedback, adaptive homework, and real-time progress tracking support each child's pace. Jennifer also works closely with educators and child development experts to keep the platform aligned with evolving best practices. “We listen, we test, we refine,” she says. “Our goal is to be as developmentally aligned as we are technologically advanced.”
014
While many schools struggle to teach Mandarin with conventional methods, hihilulu Atelier@School offers a purposebuilt solution for non-native learners aged 3 to 14. Its standout Snowballing Method accelerates literacy through structured character acquisition, while ageappropriate content and cultural storytelling make learning engaging from day one. The hybrid model combines digital tools with hands-on materials for a multi-sensory experience, and its plugand-play design fits seamlessly into any schedule. With step-by-step lesson plans and multilingual guides, even teachers with no Mandarin background can lead classes confidently. As Jennifer puts it, “We're not just delivering content—we're building a sustainable ecosystem for Chinese education.” www.educationexcellencemagazine.com
To learn a language is to have one more window from which to look at the world. Language Learning for the Whole Family For families introducing Mandarin at home, Learn Chinese@Home—via the hihilulu app—offers a flexible, child-friendly solution for ages 3 to 8. Through theme-based micro-learning, kids build vocabulary naturally with animated stories, games, and cultural content. The app's parent-friendly interface provides multilingual guides and dashboards, enabling even non-Chinese-speaking parents to support learning. Short, engaging lessons promote daily practice, while reward-based progress keeps motivation high. Accessible across devices, it turns everyday moments into opportunities for shared cultural discovery. As Jennifer says, it's not just language—it's a family journey. Learning in Every Language Recognizing that children learn differently, Jennifer designed hihilulu to support visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners. At home, the Learn Chinese hihilulu app uses animated stories and games to build listening and speaking skills. In classrooms, Atelier@School combines digital lessons with hands-on kits and progress tracking, ideal for active, tactile learners. A key highlight is hihilulu's AI voice tool, offering real-time pronunciation feedback—helping kids master Mandarin's tonal precision anytime, anywhere. 015
Unlocking the Joy of Chinese Learning Worldwide hihilulu's unique approach to Chinese language education has gained traction across multiple continents, earning enthusiastic feedback from both educators and families. One school director noted in a testimonial that hihilulu was the only solution that successfully replaced failed traditional approaches to Mandarin instruction. Many schools commend not only the innovative methodology but also the comprehensive support offered—particularly teacher training and academic quality supervision, which remove the usual barriers to launching a Chinese program. From parents, the response is equally encouraging. They often share how their children are learning Chinese with ease and joy, and how hihilulu's methods have effectively resolved one of the toughest challenges—literacy acquisition, particularly in reading and writing Chinese characters. Approach to Cultural Resonance As hihilulu expands its footprint around the world, Jennifer emphasizes a local-first approach while keeping the core Chinese pedagogy intact. www.educationexcellencemagazine.com

Localization begins with teacher empowerment—each local educator is trained and certified through HIHILULU Academy, ensuring they not only understand the platform but can confidently deliver it in a way that resonates with their students' context. Respecting cultural norms is central to the company's ethos. For example, in Arab countries, all content featuring pigs was removed to align with religious sensitivities. Across all markets, hihilulu carefully tailors content to reflect universal values and childfriendly storytelling, while introducing Chinese culture through language in a respectful, accessible way. “We believe in cultural dialogue, not cultural dominance,” says Jennifer. “Our mission is to teach Mandarin while honoring the values of every community we serve.” Vision for Next-Gen Language Education hihilulu's platform harnesses the power of personalization and AI-driven learning paths to provide an optimized and intuitive learning experience for children. By tracking 017
each learner's progress, the platform intelligently selects content that aligns with their current level and needs, ensuring a personalized learning journey. The system also features AI-enhanced speech training, allowing learners to practice their pronunciation with real-time feedback. Interactive games and a smart test data bank further support skill development by offering dynamic reinforcement and assessment. Currently, hihilulu is working on training its proprietary Snowballing Language Model as a foundation for an AGI application. This advancement aims to revolutionize the platform—enabling features like selfgenerated courseware for teachers, enhanced real-context language learning through animation, and much more. While details remain under wraps, the ambition is clear: to redefine digital language learning with nextgeneration technology. Education is no longer just preparation for
Microlearning and Bite-Sized Brilliance
The Rise of
Short-Form
I
Content
n an era where attention spans are shrinking and information overload is the norm, a new model of education is rising rapidly: microlearning. Defined by its short, focused bursts of content designed to deliver specific learning objectives, microlearning is revolutionizing how we consume knowledge. Whether it's a five-minute video, a flashcard quiz, or a podcast snippet, bite-sized brilliance is proving that less can truly be more. The Shift to Microlearning: Why Now? The shift toward microlearning isn't accidental—it's a direct response to changing digital behaviors. As social media platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts have trained us to absorb information in quick, engaging chunks, traditional education models that rely on long lectures and dense materials are struggling to keep pace. A 2023 report by Deloitte revealed that learners now prefer short-form content, especially in corporate settings where employees have only 24 minutes a week for formal learning.
022
Meanwhile, Gen Z learners—digital natives born into an on-demand world—expect content to be intuitive, interactive, and immediately useful. Microlearning, with its modular, justin-time format, fits neatly into these expectations. It delivers: • •
•
Efficiency: Learners can grasp concepts in minutes. Flexibility: Learning can happen anywhere—between meetings, on a commute, or during a lunch break. Retention: Spaced repetition and digestible chunks help improve memory recall.
Key Formats of Microlearning Microlearning is not limited to one medium. It thrives across a variety of formats, including: • •
Short Videos: 3–7 minute explainers, tutorials, or animations. Flashcards & Quizzes: For quick reinforcement and memory testing.
www.educationexcellencemagazine.com
023
www.educationexcellencemagazine.com
• • •
Infographics: Visually-driven content to convey complex ideas simply. Micro-podcasts: Short audio lessons for on-the-go learning. Interactive Apps: Gamified modules that offer real-time feedback.
This format diversity makes microlearning accessible to multiple learning styles—visual, auditory, kinesthetic—making it inclusive and effective. The Psychology Behind Microlearning's Effectiveness Microlearning aligns with how the human brain naturally learns and retains information. Research in cognitive science supports the "spacing effect"—where learning is more effective when spread out over time in smaller doses. Additionally, "cognitive load theory" explains that our brains process small chunks of information better than large volumes all at once. In simpler terms: microlearning helps us learn faster, better, and longer. Moreover, the dopamine-driven feedback loops built into microlearning platforms (through quizzes, badges, or immediate feedback) help reinforce behavior and build motivation—especially among younger learners. Corporate Learning and the Microlearning Advantage Enterprises are now rethinking traditional training and development models. Long seminars and bulky learning management systems (LMS) are being replaced—or supplemented—by microlearning modules that: •
024
Train employees on compliance and soft skills quickly
• •
Provide just-in-time support (e.g., how to use new software) Foster a continuous learning culture
Companies like Google, Unilever, and IBM have integrated microlearning into their upskilling and onboarding processes. The results? Improved engagement, faster ramp-up time, and better knowledge retention. Microlearning in K-12 and Higher Education While microlearning first gained traction in corporate environments, it's increasingly being adopted in K-12 and higher education settings. Educators are creating short-form video lessons, quizzes, and digital flashcards that align with curriculum standards. Students can revisit difficult concepts in their own time and at their own pace—ideal for blended and flipped classrooms. Apps like Khan Academy, Quizlet, and Duolingo exemplify microlearning done right: concise, personalized, and powered by data.
Challenges to Watch Despite its appeal, microlearning isn't a silver bullet. Some potential pitfalls include: • • •
Lack of depth: Micro-content may oversimplify complex topics. Fragmentation: Learners may miss the bigger picture if not guided properly. Engagement fatigue: Repetitive short formats may reduce attention if not designed creatively.
To overcome these, educators and designers must balance microlearning with macro-understanding—using it as a supplement, not a substitute, for indepth instruction. What's Next? The Future of BiteSized Learning As the global learning ecosystem evolves, microlearning is set to become a core feature, not a trend. It will be tightly integrated with: • •
AI tutors and chatbots for instant support AR/VR for immersive, microexperiential learning Credentialing via microcertifications and nano degrees
The Role of EdTech in Enabling Microlearning
•
The rise of microlearning wouldn't be possible without EdTech innovations. Platforms are now embedding AI, machine learning, and analytics into microlearning modules to offer:
In the years ahead, learning will look less like a scheduled event and more like an always-on, personalized stream, driven by microlearning.
• • •
Personalized pathways based on learner behavior Adaptive learning that modifies content in real-time Progress tracking and insights to support both learners and educators
Microlearning is no longer just about short content—it's about smart content.
Conclusion: Small is Powerful Microlearning is not just a response to our fast-paced lives—it's a proactive way to meet learners where they are. In a world that values agility, attention, and accessibility, bite-sized brilliance offers a compelling blueprint for how we teach, train, and grow. Because in the end, it's not always about how much you learn at once—it's about how well you learn over time.

ALIAD
Education
Bringing Wonder Back to the Classroom
T
he classroom has long been the gateway to knowledge, but not all classrooms are created equal. Educational inequality remains a pressing issue, particularly in the areas of access to cultural and scientific experiences. While some students embark on field trips to museums or science centers, others are left behind, often because of their geographic or socioeconomic circumstances. ALIAD Education seeks to change that. Rooted in a belief that every child deserves to be astonished and inspired, ALIAD Education brings immersive, emotional, and intellectually stimulating experiences directly into schools. Their mission is not just about education. It is about making wonder, curiosity, and exploration accessible to every student. Unpacking Wonder at Every School Gate At the heart of ALIAD Education is a simple yet profound idea. Astonishment is a catalyst for learning. When children are surprised, delighted, and emotionally moved by what they experience, they retain more information and develop a lifelong love for discovery. ALIAD Education understands that the playing field is not level. Children in under-resourced

communities often miss out on the kinds of cultural and scientific experiences that can shape their aspirations and ignite their imagination. To combat this, ALIAD Education brings immersive educational environments directly into schools through mobile classrooms. These innovative spaces are not static installations. They are self-contained, transportable, and adaptable units designed to transform any school setting into a space of extraordinary discovery. This approach removes the logistical and financial barriers that prevent schools from offering such experiences. It allows every child, regardless of location or background, to explore worlds beyond their textbooks. Learning Designed with and For Educators One of ALIAD Education's core principles is co-construction. They do not simply deliver content. They build it together with those who know students best. Every immersive experience is developed in collaboration with teachers, cognitive science researchers, and educational experts. This partnership ensures that
These learning experiences are crafted to stimulate intrinsic motivation and active engagement. Students are not passive recipients of information. They are explorers, problem solvers, and collaborators. Lessons are structured to enhance memory retention and encourage cooperation, with content tailored to be inclusive and adaptive to diverse learning styles. This co-construction model also strengthens trust and ownership. Teachers are not asked to adapt to rigid technologies or externally imposed tools. Instead, they are part of the creation process. This empowers them to use the immersive modules in ways that complement their unique classroom dynamics. Technology That Humanizes Learning ALIAD Education does not view technology as the star of the show. Rather, it is the stage on which real learning unfolds. Their mobile immersive rooms are not showcases of flashy innovation. They are functional,

accessible, and deeply purposeful tools that elevate human connection and curiosity in the learning process. The design of the technology reflects this philosophy. Each unit is easy to install and operate. Schools do not need large budgets, advanced infrastructure, or specialized staff to benefit from these experiences. The simplicity of the technology ensures it can be used widely, and its mobility ensures that no region is left out. Technology here is not the destination. It is a bridge between students and meaningful content. By embedding cognitive science into its design, ALIAD Education ensures that each experience supports how children naturally learn. Attention, emotion, memory, and active participation are all key pillars that guide the development of every module. The Awakening of Curiosity Curiosity cannot be forced. It must be awakened. ALIAD Education embraces this idea with intention and integrity. Every experience they design aims to rekindle the natural inquisitiveness that defines childhood. They do not rely on rote learning or traditional lecturing. Instead, they craft environments that invite questions, spark wonder, and leave students wanting to learn more. This approach extends beyond the students. Teachers and partners involved in the development and delivery of ALIAD experiences often report a renewed sense of inspiration. When curiosity is nurtured, it becomes contagious. It spreads from student to student, from teacher to teacher, and transforms the entire atmosphere of a school.
028
Guided by Core Values Integrity is at the center of ALIAD Education's partnerships. Intellectual honesty, transparency, and mutual respect are non-negotiable principles in their work. Their collaborations with schools and educators are built on trust, not transaction. They recognize that educational transformation requires time, dedication, and a shared vision. Another defining value is accessibility. ALIAD Education does not create products for a privileged few. Their goal is to ensure that every school, regardless of location or budget, can offer extraordinary learning experiences. They do this by simplifying complexity. Their content is designed to be intuitive. Their platforms are made to be easy to use. And their outreach ensures that everyone who needs support can receive it. Making Learning Inclusive and Empowering ALIAD Education is more than a provider of educational technology. They are a movement working to transform how children experience learning. By prioritizing inclusion, they ensure that every child feels seen, valued, and empowered. Their immersive classrooms do not cater to a single type of learner. They are built to engage different minds and abilities, ensuring equity in access and impact. The strength of their approach lies in personalization without complexity. Teachers can adapt the modules to suit their classrooms, and students of all backgrounds can connect with the material in meaningful ways. Whether a student thrives through visuals,
storytelling, problem solving, or collaboration, there is space for them in the ALIAD experience. Why ALIAD Education Matters The vision of ALIAD Education is bold but deeply necessary. They believe that every child, no matter their background, deserves the chance to be amazed. Their work is built on the idea that true education is not just about passing exams but about awakening a lifelong passion for exploration and learning. By merging the best of technology with the deepest human values, they create bridges between possibility and reality. They do not ask schools to choose between innovation and inclusion. Instead, they show how the two can work together. The immersive experiences designed by ALIAD Education serve as both mirrors and windows. They reflect the potential within each student and open new vistas of understanding and imagination. This dual impact is what makes their work so powerful. Conclusion ALIAD Education is redefining what it means to learn. By embedding immersive technology into mobile classrooms, co-developing content with educators, and anchoring every step in values like curiosity, integrity, and accessibility, they are offering a new model for equitable education. This is not about catching up with the future. It is about giving every child, here and now, the extraordinary experiences they deserve. ALIAD Education reminds us that when we bring wonder into the classroom, we change lives far beyond it.

The EdTech–WorkTech Crossover
032
www.educationexcellencemagazine.com
for
Jobs That
Don't Exist
W
e are living in a time when the line between education and employment is blurring. As technology continues to disrupt industries, entire job categories are being redefined—or invented altogether. Roles like AI ethicist, metaverse architect, and quantum data analyst were virtually unheard of a decade ago. Today, they're gaining ground in the workforce. And tomorrow? Many of the jobs our children will hold haven't even been imagined yet. In this shifting landscape, a new convergence is emerging: EdTech meets WorkTech. This powerful crossover is not just about digitizing learning or optimizing HR systems—it's about building a futureready talent pipeline, one micro-skill and one learning path at a time. The Urgency of Change Traditional education models were designed for a different era—one where knowledge had a longer shelf
033
Yet
life and careers followed linear paths. Today, we're witnessing a complete inversion. The World Economic Forum predicts that 44% of core job skills will change in the next five years, and that over 85 million jobs may be displaced due to automation by 2025. Simultaneously, 97 million new roles will emerge—many requiring hybrid, digital, and interdisciplinary skills. This rapid transformation makes one thing clear: we can't wait until graduation to prepare people for work. Learning and working must happen in tandem—and that's exactly where the EdTech-WorkTech crossover steps in. What Is the EdTech–WorkTech Crossover? The EdTech–WorkTech crossover refers to the growing integration of educational technology (EdTech) with workplace technologies (WorkTech) like talent development platforms, upskilling solutions, performance analytics, and career mobility tools.
www.educationexcellencemagazine.com
This convergence is happening across: • • • • •
Skill-building platforms (e.g., Coursera, Udemy, LinkedIn Learning) AI-powered career pathing and talent management tools Learning Experience Platforms (LXPs) embedded into corporate systems Digital credentialing and microcertification systems Internship marketplaces and job simulators
Together, these technologies are transforming how people learn and how they transition into the workforce, especially in jobs that have no historical blueprint.
In short, the crossover is not just teaching learners what to learn—it's helping them understand why, how, and where that learning will take them. Designing for Jobs That Don't Exist Yet One of the most exciting (and challenging) aspects of the EdTechWorkTech crossover is preparing learners for roles that are still being invented. To do this, both systems must embrace futurism, flexibility, and foresight. Here's how that can happen: 1.
From Content to Capability In the age of disruption, it's no longer enough to focus on academic credentials. Employers want proof of capability, not just completion. EdTech platforms are rising to the occasion by offering: • • • •
Modular learning paths tied to specific industry roles Project-based learning that mirrors real-world challenges Live feedback and coaching to develop soft and leadership skills Industry-recognized credentials that validate practical knowledge
Meanwhile, WorkTech platforms are using these signals to: • • •
034
Match talent with roles based on skills, not degrees Provide career navigation tools based on evolving market trends Build internal talent marketplaces for agile workforce deployment
2.
3.
4.
Future-Focused Curriculum Design Education platforms must be responsive to labor market analytics and future trends. Courses in ethical AI, blockchain governance, and human-robot interaction are early signs of what's to come. Lifelong Learning Ecosystems The crossover supports continuous learning—not as a buzzword, but as a career necessity. Learners need access to just-in-time upskilling throughout their careers, not just before them. Hybrid Skill Development Emerging roles demand both technical know-how and human skills. A future product designer might need to understand UX, AI ethics, psychology, and business storytelling—all at once. Credential Portability The rise of blockchain-based diplomas and open badges means learners can carry their achievements across borders and industries, building dynamic, skills-based resumes for roles that don't yet exist.
The Role of AI and Data in the Crossover AI plays a crucial role in bridging EdTech and WorkTech: • • •
Recommending personalized learning paths Predicting future job opportunities based on skill trends Matching learners with mentors, roles, or challenges suited to their goals
At the same time, data from workplace tools feeds back into learning platforms to improve outcomes. What skills are leading to promotions? What certifications are driving hiring? This data loop helps both sides evolve in sync. Conclusion: Future-Proofing Through Integration The jobs of tomorrow will demand agility, adaptability, and a relentless appetite for learning. The EdTech–WorkTech crossover isn't just a solution—it's a strategy. It's about closing the gap between what learners study and what the world demands, while building a system that evolves alongside innovation. As we stand on the edge of this new frontier, one thing is clear: those who build the bridges between education and work aren't just preparing people for jobs—they're preparing them for futures that haven't been written yet.
