EN8D GRADE STEEL EN8D grade steel: EN8D grade metallic is a medium carbon metallic providing moderate tensile strengths. The metal is capable of hardening,quenching and tempering on confined sections,but is extra usually furnished within the untreated or normalized condition. Difference between EN8 and EN8D material:
EN8 is through-hardened medium carbon metallic. It used to fabricate parts together with axles, shafts, gears, studs, bolts etc, and can be without difficulty machinable. EN8D has better wear resistance and it’s a carbon steel. It is a surface-hardened model of EN8 by induction approaches. EN8D is a grade typically used for making excessive-energy metallic additives. It is a medium carbon metallic that is characterized by using its high ductility and machinability.

Hardness level:180-220 HRC Heat treatment of EN8D steel: Tempering-EN8D can be tempered at a heat of between 550°C to 660°C (1022°F-1220°F), heating for about 1 hour for each inch of thickness, then cool in oil or water. Normalizing-EN8D bright mild metal takes place at 830-860°C (1526°F-1580°F) then it’s miles cooled in air. Quenching– Pour oil or water after heating to this temperature will harden the metallic. Hardening of EN8d-Heat the element slowly to 820-860°C and permit it to be heated through.
Quench in oil or water. Forging Properties of EN8D Steel: Preheat the metallic cautiously, after which enhance the temperature to 1050°C for forging. Do no longer forge underneath 850°C. After forging cool slowly, ideally in a furnace. Equivalent grades of EN8D steel:
