How to Navigate the New 2025 UI of Business Central
If you've just updated to the 2025 Business Central UI, you're probably noticing things look... different. I just got my hands on the new layout this week, and I figured I'd share what it's like trying to find your way around. I'm not a Business Central expert or anything, but I do use it regularly for work. So if you’re like me — someone who logs in, does what needs doing, and logs out — this post might help you feel less lost. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Training
First Impressions of the New Look The first time I opened the new UI, my brain had a moment of panic. Everything looked cleaner, which is great, but also slightly unfamiliar. The colours are softer, the icons are a little more modern, and there's more spacing between elements. It actually reminds me a bit of Microsoft Teams now, with that same slick and minimal design. The navigation pane on the left is still there, but it feels more
responsive and less cluttered. It took a few minutes to realize that some things had just moved — not disappeared. So, if you’re opening it up and wondering “Where did everything go?” don’t worry. It’s still there. Just in new spots.
Getting Used to the Navigation Changes The Business Central navigation menu is probably the biggest adjustment I had to make. In the older version, I was used to the Role Center being the main dashboard, and then clicking into modules like Sales or Finance from there. That’s still the case, but now the menu collapses a lot more by default. You have to expand sections more often, which felt annoying at first. But once I realized you can pin things to your home screen or favourites, it started making more sense. It’s like they’re trying to help us declutter and only see what we actually use — which I appreciate, now that I’ve gotten over the initial confusion.
The Search Bar is Your Best Friend Okay, this is something I didn’t use much before, but now I totally rely on it. The Business Central Tell Me search bar (that little magnifying glass at the top) is a lifesaver in the new UI. When I couldn’t find “Posted Sales Invoices” the first day, I just typed it in, and boom — there it was. You can also search for reports, pages, or even setup guides right from there. If you’re struggling to find your usual stuff, don’t waste time clicking around. Just type it in. It’s faster and honestly more intuitive in this version.
Customizing Your Workspace One thing I do really like about this update is how much easier it is to customize your workspace. You can now drag and drop sections, hide tiles you don’t use, and even resize some elements. I played around with it for like 10 minutes just rearranging stuff. If you're someone who only uses a few parts of Business Central, it makes sense to make your dashboard work for you. It’s not quite drag
and-drop like a website builder, but it’s getting close. I didn’t expect to care about this feature, but now my workspace feels way less cluttered and more tailored to how I actually work.
Learning Curve? Yeah, A Little Honestly, there is a bit of a learning curve — especially if you’ve been using the same setup for a few years. I had a couple of moments where I was like, “Why did they move this?” But it’s not a complete overhaul. It's more like a thoughtful redesign. Once you poke around for a bit and figure out where things live now, it starts to make sense. And I will say, everything feels faster and smoother. Pages load quicker, scrolling is more responsive, and even the fonts are easier on the eyes. It’s like the whole system got a fresh coat of paint and some behind the-scenes upgrades too. Final Thoughts: Don’t Panic, Just Explore If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the new Business Central UI, you’re not alone. I felt the same way at first. But after just a couple of days, I’m actually starting to like it more than the old one. The new design feels modern, the search bar is a total game changer, and customizing the workspace is a nice bonus. My advice? Click around, use the search, and don’t be afraid to rearrange things. Give it a week, and you’ll probably forget what the old version even looked like. So yeah — the 2025 UI might throw you off for a minute, but it’s not scary once you get into it. Actually, it’s kinda nice.
