About 5 days ago my oldest dog Buster kept his mouth open and started making a mess when eating/drinking. No swelling, acting fine, but won't close his mouth. I checked his occlusion and was perfect, no swelling suggestive of mandible fracture. Clear throat to his trachea, to deep intraoral lacs. Started an online search and he likely has trigeminal neuritis. A self limiting disease. x Started on Steroids. Seems comfortable albeit messy with eating/drinking. I have had to give 2 cans of soft food twice per day. Consists of giving a spoonful of food, hold his mouth shut so he can swallow. Has anyone else had this problem?

You can't have an accurate treatment plan without an accurate diagnosis. So, who made this diagnosis --- you or a Vet ? .

Consultation with a vet and a Specialist. Just curious As to why questioning the diagnosis?

I was looking to share my experience with like minded people. Not necessary to slam perceived wrongdoings. The vet dx and tx plan was keflex. The specialist was the ticket. Thanks for the input though. Will keep it in mind next time.
