said they usually get contaminated and he wants to know for sure that it is a UTI before prescribing anything. I'm sure it is, I can see her crying in pain and grabbing at herself when she wees then she is happy and runs off to play. I have followed her around for 6 hours straight with no nappy on and she wouldn't wee, I gave her so much water and even cordial that I thought she would burst, still no wee. Once she let go a tiny amount but I was too slow to catch it, and she cried and pointed to it and said Uh-oh, so I think she doesnt like to wee on the floor. Have tried potty, tried toilet, tried outside with the hose, someone please help!

we had to get an urine sample from our DD (i know she was only 6 months) but what a nightmare - i tried everything. From memory what worked the best was getting from the laboratory (where you take the sample) a bag, which we placed as close to her bit as we could and inside her nappy and then when it had caught some, cut a hole in the bag and place the sample in the sample jar. i hope you can make sense of that and i hope it helps. How on earth does your doctor expect you to get a sample without a urine bag on? My 2yo has had to give numerous urine samples and the hospital and my GP have always given urine bags which you stick

onto the skin inside the nappy. You need to wipe her down with an alcohol wipe before putting the bag on but I really can't see any other way to get a sample from a 17 month old! Good luck!! Michaela, Mummy to Joshua (3yo) Adam (2yo) #3 EDD 2nd Aug 05

Most kids go 35-45 minutes after a big drink, so hopefully you will catch it. Sounds like she is too scared to wee, poor cherub, it must really hurt.

The potty trick may not work because its not sterile. My only suggestion is to try and put glad wrap over the toilet and catch it this way although it won't be sterile its probably the best way to get one other than a bag.
