How Acoustic Ceilings Improve Productivity in Open-Plan Offices The reason why open-plan offices are popular is that they facilitate collaboration, flexibility and current modes of work. Yet, there is a significant disadvantage of them, which is noise distraction. There is no one to cover the sound in open spaces, which forms a blend of conversations, phone calls, typing, footsteps, and equipment sound. This constant background noise may cause the employees to have a hard time concentrating and getting down to work.
Acoustic ceiling solutions provided by Ecophon are important here. Acoustic ceilings enable the establishment of a healthier, more comfortable and productive workplace by enhancing sound absorption and minimizing level of noise.
Understanding the Noise Problem in Open-Plan Offices Although the appearance of open-plan offices may be modern and appealing, nobody pays attention to acoustics. Hard surfaces like concrete, glass and metal reflect as opposed to absorbing sound. This reflection brings about reverberation, where there is the lingering of sound and intersecting with other sounds. The typical issues that emerge because of low acoustics include: ● ● ● ● ●
Poor concentration Increased stress levels Reduced productivity Communication difficulties Mental fatigue
The inability of the employees to focus can increase errors, slow completion of tasks, and an increase in stress at the end of the working day.
What Are Acoustic Ceilings?
Acoustic ceilings are specially made ceiling systems with an ability to take in sound rather than reflect sound. They assist in the dampening down of the general noise levels as well as the management of echo in vast and open areas. Ecophon acoustic ceilings are designed to have high sound absorption performance that helps in absorbing a high proportion of sound energy. The basis of an efficient acoustic solution is these ceiling systems and they can be added to other acoustic components like Ecophon Solo and Ecophon Wall Panels to create an overall better result.
How Acoustic Ceilings Improve Productivity Reduced Noise and Echo Acoustic ceilings help to minimize sound reverberation and sound reflections. Sound waves strike the ceiling and bounce back but not back into the room since they are absorbed. This makes the working environment less noisy and less stressful and the employees are able to concentrate on their work more. Better Speech Clarity More often than not, it is hard to decipher conversations in busy offices. There is a lack of clarity in speech which will result in the repetition and interruption of discussions. Acoustic ceilings enhance the intelligibility of speech by eliminating echo and background noise. This enhances daily communication, meetings and collaborations. Improved Employee Wellbeing Too much noise may lead to an elevated level of stress and headaches, fatigue, and low job satisfaction. An effective acoustic ceiling will assist in making the workplace atmosphere more relaxed by reducing stress and giving employees more comfort during working hours. Higher Concentration and Task Performance Employees are able to achieve a state of concentration in their work when distractions due to noise are minimized and hence they can perform their work more effectively. It has been demonstrated that quiet and acoustically balanced environments contribute to improved performance particularly when it comes to activities that involve concentration and accuracy. Improved Speech Privacy Open offices allow talks to be easily diffused. Acoustic ceilings are used to regulate sound in order to enhance privacy in speech. This particularly applies to confidential conversation and sensitive work related conversation. A More Professional and Attractive Office Environment Acoustic ceilings come not only with functionality but are also appealing to the eye. Ecophon has a great variety of ceiling designs, colours and layout that are easily merged with modern office interiors. An acoustic environment which is well designed can portray professionalism, and brand image as well as assists in attracting and retaining talent.

These components bring in additional sound absorptions and design capabilities in open areas. Ecophon Wall Panels The Ecophon Wall Panels offer an added benefit of sound absorption on the wall level, which further removes the noise and enhances the speech clarity. They particularly work well in reflected sound in larger office spaces.
