Disney Vacation Club – Buying resale DVC vs. buying directly from Disney Home (http://dvcguy.com) / Disney Vacation Club – Buying resale DVC vs. buying directly from Disney
After the decision is made to join the Disney Vacation Club family, one of the first and most common dilemmas newcomers are faced with is: “Should we buy a resale membership or should we buy directly from Disney?”
First and foremost, you will never feel like a second-class guest if you buy resale.
Both resale and directly purchased memberships can access Top of the World Lounge at Bay Lake Tower, RCI exchange, and pool hopping.
Bay Lake Tower is $191 and Polynesian is $220 per point, respectively, if purchased directly from Disney. Resale: BLT is roughly $120-$130, and PVB is roughly $130-$140 So for example, if you bought 160 Bay Lake Tower points directly, it would cost $30,560 vs $20,000 resale. Is $10,500 +/- price difference worth access to a temporary lounge at EPCOT, 10%-20% discounts on dining and merchandise, and a $150 annual pass discount (the DVC Gold Pass has blackout dates/ excludes current promotion)? If you find those benefits meaningful and can’t live without them, fear not, you have an option. You could buy a resale contract, and following closing, contact Disney and ask to add-on 25 direct points (25 is the minimum increment for most resorts). In this way, you’ve saved a significant amount of money, and in Disney’s eyes, you are a direct member.** **as of Feb 24, 2018, the minimum add-on to be eligible for membership extras is 75 points.
