Does ought equal ability? Ought equals INHERENT RESPONSIBILITY, it says nothing about INHERENT ABILITY. Until the Functional aspect of being made in the image of God is restored, the individual has no ability to do anything with regard to God and his soul. Unless you are born again, you cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3 Sunday 15 January 17

It is the most universal note in the New Testament, even more so than the Resurrection. This is especially noteworthy in light of the fact that it was belief in the Resurrection that made Christian preaching possible. Sunday 15 January 17

The Relationship Between Repentance and Faith Which comes first? Others maintain that repentance follows faith: “Now it ought to be a fact beyond controversy that repentance not only constantly follows faith but is also born of faith . . . ” John Calvin Sunday 15 January 17
The Relationship Between Repentance and Faith
The faith that is unto salvation is a penitent faith and the repentance that is unto life is a believing repentance . . . Faith is faith in Christ for salvation from sin. But if faith is directed to salvation from sin, there must be hatred of sin and the desire to be saved from it. Such hatred of sin involves repentance . . .

The Relationship Between Repentance and Faith
Again, if we remember that repentance is turning from sin unto God, the turning to God implies faith in the mercy of God is revealed in Christ. It is impossible to disentangle faith and repentance. Saving faith is permeated with repentance and repentance is permeated with faith. - John Murray
