Hi Does it work OK on the SFAN header.? Do you have the Core Center loaded, does it show on there.? In Bios setup, PC health status, is it enabled, and does it show fan speed? Cheers jocko Logged

Hi NB stands for Northbridge, but on your system instead of being a seperate chip, it is within the CPU. Trying it on SFAN was just to check fan worked, and it wasn't a broken wire, or fault with header. 40 deg is fine, mine runs at 44 C Bios setup = When you reset or switch on, press the DEL key, at bottom right of keyboard. After the SATA post screen, it will bring up a blue screen, mouse won't work, use arrow keys and enter key to navigate, Read the second part of manual, it will tell you what and where things are. Default safe settings are best for a couple of days to get it run in. On the Advanced Bios features go to BOOT SEQUENCE press enter and set the boot sequence that suits you, I use floppy, CD, HDD. Use ESC to go back to main screen. on first screen CMOS features, the item at bottom Disable/enable boot sector virus protection, is worth enabling, it will need disabled if you are updating bios. Any queries come back Cheers jocko Logged

The CPU fan will run on whatever connector, SFAN, CFAN or PWFAN, the only differance is in where the speed etc is shown. And the way it shows in Core center. It is merely to check the fan is working OK, there is a fault somewhere, either the fan, the header or board, or the setup. finding out which is a big part of fixing it. cheers jocko Logged

well i connected the fan to other places and it works fine and CFAN is the only one that allows me to control the fan speed that's why i wanna know how to setup it on bios or whatever Logged

Hi Well that narrows it down to the 3 pin header, a fault in the board, or something in setup. I can't think of anyway of stopping the Cfan unless in Core center, so if its OK in that. it looks like the header or its supply. Some fans don't work if the Amps on the +12v are less than 18amps (better a lot more). The 4 pin power supply to the MOBO if not connected can cause this, check the 20 pin at same time. What are the specs for your machine, eg: mine below. cheers jocko Logged

Hi Sounds an OK machine, what are the amps on the label of Power Suppy Unit, it will give W say 400W and then a list of amps. the important ones are the +3.3v, the +5v and the +12v, on the +12v if you have less than 18 amps, the board will struggle to run properly

Hi On the side of PSU there is a large label, with all the details. the supply to the various lines are there. Or from the makers web site perhaps, the label is easiest. jocko Logged

it says 13 A under +12 V
why is this bad? and how does this affect the cpu fan CFAN slot? Logged

Hi Off the top of my head, I can't remember exact amps, but the CPU needs at least that for itself, all the other +12v devices, fans, disks, powered cards etc all take more, the minimun is theoretically around 18 amps, however, to run well it needs at least 20 amps, your new PSU sounds OK, the enermax PSUs that are often recommended here put out 30amps. tThe other PSU problem is sustained output, as many PSUs can produce a burst, but can't sustain the juice needed. Read the sticky at top on PSUs by Bas, you will get an idea of whats needed, under power also causes memory problems. I would take a small bet the fan problem is PSU related. Hope it helps jocko Logged

Hi No gaurantees, but as I say( not being a betting man) I would risk a wager thats what it is. If you have access to another PSU with more amps, try it I wouldn't send it back yet, you'll get it back plus bill for postage.
Good luck jocko Logged

Hi you can use the SFAN connector, but the CPU speed detector will be by passed, the cool n quiet utility... BUT before doing so read the sticky on PSUs at top of post, page 2 I think Bas gives the amps various items use, to be safe, you need around 28amps, 18/20 amps are working at full stretch, and as Bas says when they burn out, iy is often more than the PSU that is fried. If there is not enough to run the fan, as soon as HDDS etc start to work, you will crash, BSOD. Cheers jocko Logged
