C45 Material C45 Material is a high-strength and medium carbon steel which is applied in production of shafts, gears, and other machinery component. This has approximately 0.45 percent of carbon thus making it stiffer than mild steel and capable of heavier loading. Here in the Alloy Carbon Steel, we deliver round bars, flats and plates into different shapes of C45 Material. Cold working of our steel is simple and resultant heat-treated product is satisfactory.
When you require quality C45 Material to go in your project, stop by us. We ensure that you receive the appropriate size, fine finish and fast delivery. This is the reason why alloy Carbon Steel is relied on by many industries.
What is C45 Material? C45 Material is a type of medium carbon steel. The letter “C” means Carbon in Italy & the number 45 indicates that the said alloy will have around 0.45% content. Due to the carbon involved, 4140 is stronger than mild steel, yet easy to work with a machine. It is primarily used for making parts such as shafts, gear and bolts that are prone to required strength and wear resistance.

Key Features of C45 1. C45 Steel provides good strength due to its carbon content. 2. It supports easy machining for industrial use. 3. You can harden and temper it to improve toughness. 4. It handles wear better than mild steel. 5. You can weld it using the right method. 6. It performs well under heat-treated conditions. 7. It suits both light and heavy machine parts. 8. Industries use it for making shafts, axles, gears, and bolts.
Common Applications of C45 1. Engineers use it to make transmission shafts. 2. Manufacturers use it for gears and gear parts. 3. It helps in producing axles and crankshafts. 4. People use it for bolts, studs, and screws. 5. Machine makers use it for spindles and keys. 6. Workshops use it to build connecting rods. 7. You can use it in general engineering components. 8. Industries choose it for parts that need wear resistance and strength.
Heat Treatment Process 1. Heat the C45 material slowly to around 820°C – 850°C for annealing. 2. Keep it at that temperature for some time to soften the steel. 3. Cool it slowly in the furnace to reduce stress. 4. For hardening, heat it to about 840°C – 880°C. 5. Afterwards quench it in oil or water to make it harder. 6. Following quenching, reheat the steel to a temperature of 550 c to 660 c in order to measure temper. 7. Maintain the temperature at a certain period according to the size of the part. 8. Cool it in air to finish the tempering process.
Comparison of C45 Material with EN8 and Mild Steel 1. C45 Material has more carbon than Mild Steel, so it gives more strength. 2. EN8 and C45 have similar carbon content, but C45 allows better control during heat treatment. 3. Both EN8 and C45 can be hardened and Mild Steel cannot be hardened. 4. Mild steel can be welded easily and C45 and EN8 require good caution when welding. 5. C45 and EN8 are used for machine parts like gears and shafts, while Mild Steel is used for light structures. 6. C45 gives better wear resistance than Mild Steel in working conditions. 7. You can machine all three, but C45 and EN8 need better tools for cutting. 8. C45 performs well in jobs where strength and toughness are required, more than Mild Steel.
