Blue Lanka Tours Welcomes a New Chapter in Sustainable Tourism with Partnership with WNPS
Blue Lanka Tours is on a quest to conquer new frontiers in responsible tourism in Sri Lanka. We have come a long way on our journey to refine conscious travel. Our latest step forward is becoming a corporate member of the Wildlife and Nature Protection Society (WNPS) of Sri Lanka. This partnership reflects a deepening commitment to responsible tourism that nurtures Sri Lanka’s extraordinary biodiversity and supports long-term conservation goals. We are proud to partner with this conservation champion, and here’s why it matters in crafting meaningful travel and advocating for sustainability. What is the Wildlife and Nature Protection Society (WNPS)? For over 130 years, the Wildlife and Nature Protection Society of Sri Lanka (WNPS) has been a driving force behind wildlife and environmental conservation in the country. Established in 1894, it is the oldest nature protection society in Sri Lanka and the 3rd oldest conservation organisation in the world. It has been instrumental in shaping Sri Lanka’s conservation landscape – notably contributing to the creation of iconic protected areas such as Wilpattu and Yala National Parks, as well as strengthening national wildlife laws and conservation institutions. Today, WNPS is the largest and most active nature protection society on the island, continuing its work across a wide spectrum of conservation initiatives, including forest rehabilitation, marine conservation, environmental education, and community outreach. The Society’s programmes align closely with key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including climate action, life on land, life below water, and quality education, ensuring that biodiversity
conservation goes hand in hand with sustainable social and economic benefits for local communities.
Why This Partnership Is Important? By becoming a corporate member of WNPS, Blue Lanka Tours becomes part of a collective of organisations dedicated to protecting wildlife, safeguarding natural ecosystems and promoting sustainable livelihoods throughout Sri Lanka. This membership goes far beyond a formal affiliation. It actively enables meaningful contributions to conservation through:
Supporting high-impact initiatives, such as reforestation, habitat rehabilitation and biodiversity research and monitoring.
Raising environmental awareness among travellers, industry stakeholders and tourism professionals.
Aligning tourism practices with global sustainability frameworks, grounded in scientific research and community-led conservation.
This collaboration further reinforces Blue Lanka Tours’ long-standing commitment to responsible tourism. Through its travel experiences and thought leadership, the company consistently prioritises reducing environmental impact, empowering local communities and creating journeys that honour Sri Lanka’s wildlife and cultural heritage, principles that lie at the heart of truly sustainable travel. Ethical and Sustainable Wildlife Tour Policy of Blue Lanka Tours At the heart of Blue Lanka Tours’ responsible tourism philosophy is a strong commitment to creating travel experiences that respect wildlife and protect natural habitats. Every itinerary is thoughtfully designed to ensure wildlife encounters are ethical, non-intrusive and nondisruptive. Animal welfare and conservation before entertainment and convenience. We take pride in the fact that Sri Lanka is among the world’s 34 biodiversity hotspots. Preserving it for the future is an immense responsibility. Blue Lanka Tours actively discourages exploitation in all its forms. Tours avoid activities that involve animal performances, captive wildlife interactions or practices that cause stress, distress or behavioural disruption. Instead, guests are guided to observe animals in their natural environments, from a respectful distance, under the guidance of experts who prioritise conservation ethics and responsible viewing practices. Equally important is the company’s approach to habitat protection. Wildlife excursions are planned to minimise impact on ecosystems by adhering to park regulations, following best
practices, and selecting responsible operators who follow strict codes of conduct. This ensures that tourism supports conservation rather than placing additional pressure on fragile environments. We place a strong emphasis on diversifying wildlife travel beyond overcrowded hotspots. While Sri Lanka’s famous national parks are undeniably spectacular, excessive visitor numbers can strain ecosystems and diminish the quality of wildlife encounters. To address this, Blue Lanka Tours promotes lesser-known national parks and wildlife reserves, offering travellers the opportunity to explore quieter, equally rich habitats while helping to ease pressure on more heavily visited areas. This approach not only supports more balanced conservation outcomes but also delivers deeper, more authentic wildlife experiences, where travellers can enjoy unhurried sightings, richer biodiversity and a stronger connection to nature. Our mission is to create wildlife tours that have positive impacts on Sri Lanka’s natural heritage and the communities that depend on it, now and for generations to come. Advancing Sustainable tourism Goals with the Right Partnerships Tourism in Sri Lanka brings millions of visitors and significant economic benefits. However, with that comes responsibility. By collaborating with WNPS, Blue Lanka Tours is helping to ensure that we not only showcase Sri Lanka’s natural beauty to visitors but also protect and preserve it. Our goal is to create travel that doesn’t have to cost the earth, instead encourages conservation and meaningful admiration. In a world increasingly conscious of climate change, biodiversity loss, and community impact, we strive for corporate partnerships that pave the way for sustainable growth in tourism. We hope to add value to WNPS’ journey as much as they add value to ours, and our shared objectives will help us reach conservation goals with tangible onthe-ground outcomes that make a greater impact.
