Fresh and flavorful South Indian cuisine
Because of this variety, Kerala appeals to many types of travelers. Couples love the romantic scenery, families enjoy the educational and cultural experiences, and solo travelers often appreciate the relaxed and welcoming environment. Popular Places Included in a Kerala Tour A well-planned kerala india tour usually includes several destinations, each offering a different side of the region. Kochi – Where the Journey Begins Most trips start in Kochi, a coastal city with a long history of international trade. Walking around the historic area of Fort Kochi, you’ll see a blend of Portuguese, Dutch, and British architecture. The streets are filled with small cafés, art galleries, and heritage buildings. One of the most recognizable sights is the large Chinese fishing nets along the shoreline, which fishermen still use today. Visitors also enjoy watching Kathakali, a traditional dance performance known for its colorful costumes and expressive storytelling. Munnar – Cool Hills and Endless Tea Gardens After Kochi, many travelers head up into the hills toward Munnar. The drive itself is part of the experience, winding through green valleys, waterfalls, and spice plantations. Munnar is famous for its vast tea gardens that stretch across the mountains. The air is cooler here, making it a refreshing break from the tropical coast. Some popular experiences in Munnar include:
Walking through tea plantations
Visiting the Tea Museum
Exploring scenic viewpoints
Spotting wildlife at nearby national parks
For couples especially, Munnar often feels peaceful and romantic. Thekkady – Forests and Wildlife Nature lovers usually enjoy the stop in Thekkady. The town sits near the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, a protected forest area known for its wildlife and beautiful lake.
One of the most popular activities is a boat safari on Periyar Lake. While cruising through the calm water, visitors sometimes spot elephants, deer, or birds along the forest edge. Thekkady is also known for its spice plantations. Many tours include a walk through these farms where visitors can learn about spices like cardamom, pepper, and cinnamon. Alleppey – A Houseboat on the Backwaters For many travelers, the highlight of a kerala tour 10 days in india is the houseboat experience in Alleppey. These traditional boats have been converted into floating hotels, complete with bedrooms, dining areas, and open decks. As the boat slowly moves through the backwaters, you’ll see village life unfolding along the canals. People wash clothes by the water, fishermen paddle small boats, and children wave from the riverbanks. The pace is slow, quiet, and incredibly relaxing. Kovalam – Time to Unwind at the Beach After exploring mountains and backwaters, many tours end with a few relaxing days in Kovalam. This coastal town is known for its curved beaches and gentle waves. Lighthouse Beach is the most popular area, with small restaurants, cafés, and views of the Arabian Sea. Visitors often spend their time swimming, enjoying fresh seafood, or trying traditional Ayurvedic spa treatments. It’s the perfect way to wind down at the end of a trip.
