Covering the Pirates The Hampton University 2008 Football Media Guide has been designed for use by local and national media and Pirate fans. Additional information including press releases, photos, and video footage is available by request to accredited media outlets. Any questions not covered in this publication can be directed to the Hampton University Sports Information Office.
CREDENTIALS Credentials for Hampton University home games are issued to working media only and must be visible as all times for access to the press box. Requests should be made as soon as possible, in writing and on company letterhead to Maurice Williams, Director of Sports Information at 194 Holland Hall, Hampton, Virginia 23668 or via fax at (757) 727-5813. Season credentials will be granted to daily newspapers and television/radio stations that cover the Pirates on a regular basis. Other media outlets will be granted credentials on a single-game, space available basis at the discretion of the Sports Information Office. Requests for single-game credentials should arrive no later than 48 hours prior to the day of the game. Credentials will be mailed if time permits or can be picked up at the Sports Information Office, Room 194 Holland Hall, until 5:00 p.m. the day before the game. Otherwise, they will be left at the press will-call booth at Armstrong Stadium.
FOOTBALL PRACTICE Hampton University football practices are open to the media. Coach Holmes will meet with interested media 15 minutes prior to or immediately following practice. Please contact the Sports Information Office if you plan to attend. A member of the Pirates Sports Information staff will assist in gathering requested players for interviews.

Interview Policies WEEKLY PRESS CONFERENCE Coach Holmes plays host to a weekly media conference on Wednesday’s at noon in the Team Room of Armstrong Stadium. He will highlight the previous week’s contest and also preview the upcoming opponent. In addition, Pirate student-athletes will also be in attendance and available for one-on-one interviews.
INTERVIEWING COACH HOLMES All media outlets that are unable to attend the weekly press conference may arrange an interview with Coach Holmes through the Sports Information Office. Please arrange all interviews at least 24 hours in advance. Interviews will be conduced either prior to or at the conclusion of practice; no interviews will be conducted during practice.
PLAYER INTERVIEWS Players are available for interviews in person or via telephone throughout the week. All player interviews should be arranged thought the Sports Information Office and at least 24 hours in advance. Telephone interviews will be conducted when the players’ schedules allow. Hampton University players will not accept calls from the media in their rooms.
POSTGAME INTERVIEWS Following a brief cooling-off period, Coach Holmes and requested HU players will be brought to the interview area in Armstrong Stadium. Requests for players will be collected in the press box, midway through the fourth quarter. The locker room and training area are closed to the media.
PRESS PARKING Press parking passes are available upon request on a limited basis and must be picked up at least 24 hours in advance of the weekly contest. Press parking is located in Lot #5 adjacent to the Football Stadium or Lot #11 adjacent to the Hampton University Convocation Center. Press parking credentials must be visible in the front window art all times. Passes cannot be transferred or replaced.

PHOTOGRAPHERS
Programs, flip cards, statistics and game notes will be provided before each game. A play-by-play will be distributed at the conclusion of each quarter. Halftime statistics also will be available. Complete team and individual statistics and scoring summary will be provided after the game, A light meal will be served during halftime of each game and soft drinks are available throughout the contest.
Photographers will not be allowed on the sideline without a visible credential issued by the Hampton University Sports Information Office. Under NCAA and Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference guidelines, photographers are not allowed between the 25-yard lines. Credential holders not working will be asked to leave the sidelines. A representative of the Sports Information Office will be on the field to handle any questions and serve as a field liaison to the press box staff.
WEST PRESS BOX (HOME SIDE) LEVEL 1 – Working area for scoreboard operator, clock operators, video board operator and television commentators. This level also includes the Director of Athletics’ booth. LEVEL 2 – President’s Site
EAST PRESS BOX (VISITOR’S SIDE) LEVEL 1 – This area is reserved for working media and sports information personnel. LEVEL 2 – Working area for coaches and visiting and home team radio stations.
RADIO BROADCASTING All visiting radio stations wishing to broadcast a contest at Armstrong Stadium must contact the Sports Information Office at least two weeks prior to the game.
MEAC TELECONFERENCE The 10 MEAC Football coaches will be featured on a weekly teleconference each Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until 11:43 a.m. Each Coach will have 10 minutes to make an opening statement and answer questions. Contact the MEAC Office at (757) 416-7116 for the dial in number to the teleconference.
