Abstract This review charts the changes in radiation protection philosophy, regulation and practice over the thirty year period 1977 – 2007. During this time there have been substantial changes both internationally and in Australia. Medical physicists have been involved, and continue to be involved, in all aspects of radiation protection in medicine at a national, State and hospital level.
