Penelitian ini mengidentifikasi strategi preffered request yang digunakan oleh peserta didik Jurusan Bahasa Inggris FKIP Unlam Banjarmasin dan modifikasi eksternal yang mereka gunakan dalam membuat permintaan. Ruang lingkup penelitian ini dibatasi pada strategi permintaan yang disukai - petunjuk, permintaan konvensional tidak langsung (hearer-oriented condition), permintaan konvensional tidak langsung (speaker-oriented condition), dan permintaan langsung - yang digunakan oleh peserta didik dari Jurusan Bahasa Inggris FKIP - Unlam Banjarmasin, sedangkan modifikasi eksternal yang digunakan oleh peserta didik dari Jurusan Bahasa Inggris FKIP - Unlam Banjarmasin terbatas hanya ketika mereka membuat permintaan dalam berbagai situasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif karena dimulai dengan teori strategi permintaan dan menggunakan pengukuran yang diukur. Penggunaan pendekatan ini dimaksudkan untuk mengetahui jenis permintaan yang paling sering digunakan oleh peserta didik dari Jurusan Bahasa Inggris FKIP UNLAM.

This research identifies the preferred request strategies used by the English Department learners of FKIP - UNLAM Banjarmasin and the external modifications they use in making a request. The scope of this research is limited in the preferred request strategies hints, conventionally indirect request (hearer-oriented condition), conventionally indirect request (speakeroriented condition), and direct request are used by the learners of English Department of FKIP UNLAM Banjarmasin, while the external modifications used by the learners of English Department of FKIP UNLAM Banjarmasin are limited only when they make requests under various situations. This research used descriptive quantitative approach because it starts with theory of request strategies and uses measurement which is quantified. The use of this approach is intended to find out the most frequently type of request used by the learners of English Department of FKIP UNLAM.
