IMPROVING NATURAL SCIENCE LEARNING ABOUT THE EARTH AND THE UNIVERSE USING STUDENT FACILITATOR AND EXPLAINING (SFE) METHOD THROUGH MULTIMEDIA IN THE FIFTH GRADE STUDENTS OF SDN SINGOSARI IN THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2014/2015. Thesis, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Sebelas Maret University of Surakarta. June 2015. The objectives of this research are: (1) to describe steps of the application of the student facilitator and explaining method with multimedia in improving natural science about the earth and the universe for the fifth grade student of SDN Singosari in the academic year of 2014/2015, (2) to increase of natural science learning about the earth and the universe, and (3) to describe the problems and solutions in improving natural science learning. This research is a collaborative Classroom Action Research (CAR) conducted in three cycles. Each cycle consists of: planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. Data collection techniques were observation, interviews, and tests. Subjects in this research were all students of fifth grade in SDN Singosari in the academic year of 2014/2015 totalling 32 students. The results show that: (1) the steps of application of the SFE methods using multimedia in improving natural science learning about the earth and the universe for the fifth grade student of SDN Singosari in the academic year of 2014/2015, namely: (a) introduction; (b) deliver the competency; (c) give assignment; (d) deliver the results; (e) conclusion; (f) closing; (2) natural science learning about the earth and the universe using SFE methods through multimedia has increased. This is evidenced in the first cycle that the percentage of students mastery was 79.1%, with the percentage of the learning process of teachers 84.7% and students 81.9%. In the second cycle, the percentage of students mastery was 91.9%, with the percentage of the learning process of teachers 96.1% and students 92.7%, and in the third cycle, the percentage of students mastery was 98.4%, with a percentage of the learning process of teachers 97.6% and students 96.1%; (3) problems in this research were: the teacher has not memorized the steps of SFE method, multimedia mastery, the teacher dominated the learning, and the delivery of materials was too fast. Solutions for those problems are the teacher should learn more the SFE methods, researchers guide the teacher to use multimedia, the teacher involved students in learning, deliver the competence and materials clearly and normally. The conclusion of this research is using SFE methods through multimedia can improving natural science about the earth and the universe for the fifth grade student of SDN Singosari in the academic year of 2014/2015.
