University Communications Final phase of Air Supported Dome construction begins MINOT, N.D. – The highly anticipated installation of the air supported dome over the turf at Minot State University’s Herb Parker Stadium began Monday. Yeadon Fabric Domes will install the final structure pieces and the fabric dome over the field during a five-day process. The fabric structure will be spread out Dec. 6 and 7 and – pending weather – the bubble will be inflated Dec. 8. The cost of the project is approximately $2 million with $1 million coming from the city of Minot’s Community Facilities Fund grant and another $1 million raised by the university from private individuals, foundations, and local businesses. “Thanks to support from the City of Minot and all of the supporting contributors, this new seasonal bubble will be a tremendous long-term asset, not just for MSU and our students, but for the entire Minot community and surrounding region,” said Minot State University President Dr. Steven Shirley. “The installation of the dome is a major step as we continue to grow the Minot State Department of Athletics,” MSU Director of Athletics Andy Carter said. “This will allow our teams to practice and play in a comfortable environment.”

Yeadon, an industry leader producer of state-of-the-art air structures with 25 years of experience, will return during the week of Dec. 9 to install lights, netting, and batting cages. The Minneapolis-based company has experience installing domes in Fargo, Bismarck, and Belcourt in North Dakota as well as at the University of Alaska-Anchorage, Marquette University, Arizona State, and the Arizona Cardinals. Artificial turf was installed at the stadium in summer 2010, and the seasonal air-supported dome enables the turf to be utilized for a number of additional events such as weekend tournaments in youth, adult and collegiate soccer and softball, and non-tournament usage such as MSU softball, soccer, baseball, and football practice, public walking and jogging, community events, a golf driving range, and much more. The Minot State baseball, football, softball, soccer and track & field teams will utilize the dome for practices during the winter months. The Minot State softball team will play several early-season games in the dome in February.
