OL: Genetics Vocabulary Remediation & Enrichment
Students received their vocabulary quizzes back today showing their results. Students were grouped according to their performance on the quiz. Tier 1: Created Vocabulary Frames for each word in each question that they missed. Tier 2 : Created graffiti walls to showcase the word they missed for each question. Tier 3: Used the vocabulary terms to generate a concept map. AC: Alien Orphanage Charts
The children from the orphanage need to be returned to their biological parents. Use the information about the alleles preset in the parents and the offspring to determine the correct match. Create a chart that identifies the alleles for each of the parents and possible allele combination for each offspring. Today students worked in groups to create genotype/phenotype charts for the Alien Orphanage PBL problem. Students created a chart in Excel to record their data and then published this chart in Edmodo for your group to access. Today students played Pictionary to review definitions of vocabulary terms before taking today’s Genetics Vocabulary quiz. After the quiz, students were given class time to work on any missing assignments and their newly assigned Body Systems remediation.

AC: Monster Genetics I checked Ch5, sec. 1-3 Notes. If you were absent, please show them to me upon your return. As a class, we reviewed over five different modes of inheritance. Today students participated in Penny Genetics Monster Lab. Students used the terms genotype, phenotype, dominant, recessive, homozygous, heterozygous, complete dominance, co-dominance, and incomplete dominance to determine which traits were to be passed on to their offspring (the baby monster). Students watched a video which reviewed over the vocabulary related to this unit. Please show me your vocabulary assignment once you have it completed. Today students were given time in class to work on their Saffron Cow Karyotypes to determine which cows have a normal set of chromosomes and whcih cows have a mutated set of chromosomes.
