Job Description: Marketing and Communications Manager The ASIP Marketing & Communications Manager designs, implements, and manages print and digital marketing and communications initiatives for the American Society for Investigative Pathology (ASIP) scientific meetings, membership, and journals. *Please note that the ASIP Office is currently on the Beaumont Campus but will be moving 4 miles north to 1801 Rockville Pike in February 2017. Marketing (40% time): • Manages marketing campaigns to include abstract submissions, registration, exhibits, sponsorships, and ad sales for scientific meetings and other educational events. • Collaborates with the Director of Membership and Educational Services to design and implement membership recruitment campaigns. • Collaborates with the Journals Managing Editor to design, implement, and manage journal promotional materials to ASIP members and authors, as well as journal-related promotional materials for ASIP meetings, membership and journals. • Researches and develops co-promotional and academic/corporate sponsorship opportunities. • Provides limited marketing services to ASIP managed societies as requested. • Represents ASIP and manages ASIP exhibit displays at external meetings 4-5 times yearly. Communications (20% time): • Provides oversight of content-management on ASIP websites and microsites and directs ASIP staff members to update content of the sections/pages of the ASIP websites and microsites for which they are responsible. • Writes and posts content to the ASIP website and microsites. • Liaisons to website content-management vendor to request template and navigation revisions, as necessary, and to report bugs. • Oversees Lyris listservs. Develops and creates marketing listservs, as necessary. • Writes and/or edits press releases for society, scientific meetings, educational initiatives, membership, and awards. • Collaborates with the ASIP Project Coordinator to identify potential content and ads for ASIP newsletters. • Provides bi-monthly website statistics reports and analysis to the Chief Financial Officer, Executive Officer, and other staff as requested. • Designs, develops and maintains informational PowerPoint™ slides featuring ASIP meetings, membership, education, journals, scientific policy, society initiatives, and career development resources for distribution at ASIP meetings and workshops, and outreach events. Social Media (20% time): • Develops (in conjunction with ASIP committee members) and manages social media campaigns for scientific meetings, membership, Scientific Interest Groups, and other initiatives. • Monitors society social media channels, engages with audience, and responds to inquiries and comments.
Designs and Creates (10% time): • Designs and creates media for print and digital distribution, including - but not limited to - ads, brochures, posters, membership applications, surveys, web banner ads, meeting programs, and email blasts. • Collaborates with ASIP staff to design and launch online surveys. Other (10% time): • Participates in the FASEB MarCom committee (marketing for the Experimental Biology Meeting). • Participates in selected ASIP committee conference calls. • Develops SOP’s for designing, implementing, and assessing success of marketing initiatives. • Develops SOP’s for use of social media. • Develops SOP’s for monitoring and updating content on ASIP websites. • Develops SOP’s for managing content updates to ASIP websites and microsites. • Other duties as assigned. Working and Reporting Relationships • The Marketing and Communications Manager will work closely with the Director of Meetings, the Director of Membership and Educational Services, and the Project Coordinator, the Chief Financial Officer, and the Executive Officer. • The Marketing and Communications Manager will report to the Chief Financial Officer. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in marketing and/or communications or equivalent. Minimum Experience Requirements 5 years non-profit association marketing experience and representation at commercial exhibits. Skillset(s) MS Office Adobe InDesign and/or Quark Adobe Photoshop Adobe Illustrator Adobe Acrobat Professional Written & Verbal Skills Interpersonal Skills Editing, Proper use of Grammar Organizational Skills Social Media Platforms (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube) Knowledge of Web Design Graphic Design
