lOth "China In Your Classroom" Quiz Bee Com~etition SY 2016-2017

As part of the celebration of the 41'1 anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between
the Philippines and People's Republic of China. the Cultural 9ffice of Chinese Embassy of the Philippines, Department of Education-National Capital Region (DepEd-NCR), Federation of Filipino-Chinese Associations of the Philippines, and the Philippine Chinese Education Research Center (PCERC) will hold anew the "China in Your Classroom" Quiz Bee Competition this school year. The competition has been receiving good feedbacks from the participating schools for nine long years. Thus, the organizers deem it necessary to continue this meaningful event. The details of the proposal are as follows:
1. Organlzen The competition, sponsored by the Philippine Uni-Orient Travel, Inc., is jointly' organized by the Cultural Office of Chinese Embassy of the Philippines, Department of Education-National Capital Region (DepEd-NCR), Federation of Filipino-Chinese Associations of the Philippines (FFCAP) and the Philippine Chinese Education Research Center, Inc. (PCERC). DepEd-NCR shall assist in motivating and organizing the students from each division to participate in the said project. It shall provide the competition venue and shall gather an audience to witness the semi-fmal and final rounds. The Federation of Filipino-Chinese Associations of the Philippines shall provide the activity costs, such as shirts to be worn on the semi-final and final rounds, snacks (for 200 persons), packed lunch (for 100 persons) and buffet lWlch (for 100 persons) during the day of the competition; a computer and , printer set for the school with total highest score garnered during preliminary round, cash prizes (for 24 persons), and the consolation prizes for the non-winning participants, their trainers and school heads, souvenirs for DepEd officials, and gift cheques worth Php 20,000 for the champion and host school. The Philippine Chinese Education Research Center, Inc. shall plan and coordinate the whole project; shall make and print test questionnaires from preliminary to final rounds, invitation and certificates; shall provide the technical assistance in the implementatien of the said. competition, and shall take charge of the set-up and decoration of the stage for the semi-final and final rounds. Uni:Orient Travel, Inc. shall take charge of the processing fees, rou~dtrip tickets, tour, food and accommodation in China for the 11 persons (4 members of the winning team, 1 trainer, I representative from the winning school, 1 Edu~ation Supervisor AP- ESl, 1 official from DepEd-NCR, l representative ·from FFCAP, 1 representative from PCERC, 1 representative from Uni-Orient Travel, Inc.).

NON-PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS of the 9th "China In Your Classroom" Quiz Bee ompetitlon (SY 2015-2016) SHALL BE GIVEN PRIORITY in representing their divisions. For the prelimin~ round, each participating school shall select 25 students from each year level (Grade 7 to Grade 10) who will all take a qualifying (written) examination· individually. The preliminary round shall have a total of 100 participants from eacli school (4 year levels x 25 persons) and a total of 1,600 participants for the 16 schools representing 16 divisions. For the semi-final round, each participating school shall send a team composed of 4 students (the first placers of each respective year level during the preliminary round) to compete with the teams of other participating schools {quiz bee style). The semi-final round shall hav~ a total of 16 teams with a total of 64 participants. The top 5 teams in the semi-final round shall enter into the final round competition. There shall be one champion team, and one winner each for the 2"d, 3rd, 4th, and S1h.places. The final round shall
have 5 teams, for a total of 20 participants.
3. The Contest The Competition shall be composed of three rounds, namely, the preliminary round (written), semi-final and fmal rounds (to be held on the same day). All questions that will be asked during the preliminary, semi-final and final rounds shall revolve around the topics on Chinese history, culture, geography, contemporary development and Filipino-Chinese relationship, etc. The schedules of the competition are as follows: (1) Preliminary round: November 12,2016 (Saturday) (2) Semi-final round: February 13,2017 (Monday), 8 to 10 a.m. (3) Final round: February 13,2017 (Monday), 10 a.m. to 12 n.n. 4. Mec:hanics ( 1) There will be 100 questions for the preliminary competition. Participants are required to answer these questions within 2 hours. Each participating school sha!l send 4 teachers to stand : as proctors of another sch

(3) In the final round, there shall be 2 specific questions ~ntendtd for euc · ''free-for-all" questions. Questions will be read twice. For the specific questions portion, one of the team members shaH draw hL · . - "" questions. Each correct answer is worth 20 points, while each incorrect answer shaH meri a deduction of 10 points. In case the team fails to answer correctly, the remaining four team· wiU be given a chance to usteal" the question. (4) The points accumulated in the semi-final round shall be included in the final round. At the stan of the final roun~ a base of 200 points will be given to each team. (5) In case of a tie in the semi-fmal and the final rounds, tie-~reaker question/s will be asked to determine the witmer. answer. (7) No question will be entertained as soon as the next question is read. (8) The detision of the board of judges will be final. 5. Prizes
(1) A comp\tter and printer set will be awarded to the school with the total highest score garnered during the preliminary round. (2) The 11' placer: The winning school shall receive a gift cheque worth Php 20,000.00. The winning team (4 members, their trainer, and a school official) is entitled to a 5-day & 4-night all-expenses-paid trip to Beijing, China. (Passport processing fee and DSWD clearance expenses shall be shouldered by the travelers. Visa application fee and travel tax shall be taken care of by the sponsors.) (3) 2nd Placer: the witming team (4 members, their trainer and school head) shall receive a gift cheque worth Php 15,000:00 each. . ~ · (4) 3rd Placer: the winning team (4 members, their trainer and school~head) shall receive a gift cheque worth Php 10,000.00 each. . . (2) Major newspapers and television stations shall be invited to cover the semi-final and the final round competitions, and the awarding ceremony. (3) His Excellency Zhao Jianhua, the Ambassador of China, and the officials of DepEd shall be invited to the final round competition and the awarding ceremony. 7. Time Table (1) September 16, 2016 ·the organizers shall convene in DepEd-NCR to finalize the competition proposal in details. (2) September 30, 2016- Dissemination of the contest through a DepEd memo shall be done. (3
