Human Body Systems Welcome to the second course of Project Lead The Way. The Human Body Systems course examines the interactions of human body systems that maintain health. This will be a fun, engaging, and challenging course that will help students prepare for college level science and biomedical careers.
ANATOMY IN CLAY Students learn Anatomy and Physiology in HBS working with Manikens ® Throughout the Humans Body Systems course, students will model human anatomy and explore human physiology on their own 2 foot skeletal Maniken. They will build muscles, create blood vessels and nerves, and sculpt many body organs including the heart and brain. Over the course the semester students will make their Manikens come alive with clay organs and tissues.

Class Trips Unit 1: Identity Students began the course learning directional and regional terminology. Students learned the bones of the body and skull and three muscles of the face. They worked in small groups to create videos that taught these terms to others. Students worked as Forensic Anthropologists and DNA Analysts. Students performed Gel Electrophoresis in order to make DNA fingerprints. They have been working at matching bones of two fictitious persons found in the park to fictitious missing person reports from the police department. Congratulate your students on performing a college-level lab!
Unit 2: Communication In this unit students learn about how we communicate with the outside world focusing on electrical and chemical communication in the body.
Unit 3: Power In this unit students investigate how the body obtains, distributes, or processes the body's primary resources for energy and power - food, oxygen, and water. They learn about the digestive system, respiratory system, and urinary systems.
Unit 4: Movement In Unit 4 students investigate the movement of the human body. We begin by learning about different synovial joints and dissect a cow elbow. The we measure Range of Motion (ROM) at different joints, learn about rules all muscles follow, and begin to build a series of muscles, blood vessels, and nerves on our Manikens.
Unit 5: Protection Unit 6: Homeostasis Unit 1 Anchor Charts
Unit 2 Anchor Charts
Unit 3 Anchor Charts
