Hi, This is my husband’s account; I am new to the forums. I was hoping I could get some suggestions on hosting my 3 wk old daughter’s baptism celebration following the ceremony (for about 25 people). The ceremony is at 1:00 in the afternoon with just family. Therefore, the party will begin around 2. Would you recommend finger foods, or a lunch? Do you have any suggestions for what type of finger foods, or lunch food?

I am not very experienced with throwing parties, or cooking for many people, but I want to make it special, and have the time to do so. I am just short on ideas. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks.

One simple thought: grab a crock pot (if you don’t have one, borrow one) and by a sack or two of the small prepared meatballs and a couple of bottles of sauce. Toss it all together before you leave for Church and put on high. The only thing you need is tooth picks. Sep 2017 SeekerJen

The crockpot meatballs are a good idea. You can go to a Costco or Gordon Food Service bulk store and find a lot of different ready-made horsd’oeuvres that you just thaw, heat, and serve. We did this for a recent event in our church hall- mini-quiches, spinach tarts, pigs-in-blankets, etc. They have frozen desserts, too, and all of it’s pretty good. You could serve these with a couple of fruit, veggie, and deli trays from the supermarket and some beverages, and I think most people would be quite happy.

I have the best recipe for a fruit salad dressing. Combine: 1/2 Cup plain yogurt (regular or non-fat) 3 T Honey 1 t. Lime Extract (you can also use Strawberry or another fruit) 1/8 t. ginger You can buy fruit trays at Wal-Mart or other grocery stores. Just throw all the fruit into a large bowl and the dressing into a small pour-pitcher or another bowl in a spoon. The dressing is optional and makes for a nice addition to the fruit because most people don’t serve dressing with fruit salad. I served it a few months ago at a dinner party I was hosting and it was a big success. Scout :tiphat:

Our children’s baptisms (except for the baby’s) were in the summer, so we went the BBQ route…it was the cheapest, easiest and the most fun. Afterwards, we had cake and coffee. It was fun. I like the meatball idea…if you want to feed your guests, you can also make spaghetti to go along with them. Good luck and congratulations.

Sams has great appetizers and little frozen dessert thingies, the appetizers bake in 10 minutes or so, and the desserties just thaw.

Many of these suggestions are wonderful. We had a very large sub by Subway and potato salad from Lee’s Famous Recipe. There were other salads and things supplied by friends that I told not bring anything. We ended up with more attendees than I expected and while it was fun, it seemed a plague of locusts had hit us. May your event go much better.

We had a shower for some friends and used the Sam’s/Costco stuff. It was great and everyone actually raved about it. We had mini quiches, the pinwheel sandwhiches, shrimp, dip with chips, etc. For our son’s baptism party, we got the long subway sandwhich and also got a bunch of croissants from Sam’s and made egg salad so people could have egg salad sandwiches too. That was pretty easy as well. Good luck! Nicole

We got one of those party platters from Subway, some salads (potato salad, cole slaw), and soda. For dessert, we bought a cake and had “God Bless Rebecca” written on it. Anything is fine, really. My baby’s cake: davidschoenberger.net/joy/photogallery/Baptism/15Baptism.html

First, Congratulations on the new baby! Second, I’m a fan of the “Vegetable Crudite” - raw chopped veggies with dip. One side of the family really likes their vegetables and is very disappointed if all the food at a party has a high fat content. The other side of the family thinks vegetable is a four letter word. So this is a good compromise that is easy to do ahead of time. Plus, there’s always someone at the party who is on a diet, and will appreciate having something lowcalorie to munch on.

We did finger rolls with egg salad, cold cuts. Chips, doritos, etc. Cake, cookies, coffee. That was it, and a good time was had by all.
