The UT Soutwestern Advanced Imaging Research Center (AIRC) was created in September 2005 and is located in the Bill and Rita Clements Advanced Medical Imaging Building. The AIRC is a collaboration between UT Southwestern Medical Center and other North Texas institutions to further research in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS), and translation of discoveries into clinical practice. The Center's research seeks to advance basic understanding, diagnostic techniques, and treatments for a wide range of diseases, including cancer, diabetes, obesity, Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, depression, autism, attention-deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD), and diseases of the heart, lung, and liver. Our faculty actively participates in training graduate students. Faculty and staff from UT Dallas' Center for BrainHealth and Center for Vital Longevity are major users of our facilities.

Dean Sherry Heads AIRC Faculty Dr. Sherry holds the Cecil H. and Ida Green Distinguished Chair in Systems Biology #1 at UT Dallas and holds a joint appointment at UT Southwestern as Professor of Radiology. He has over forty years of experience in developing novel MRI imaging agents and is considered a leader in the field. His research is supported by several grants from the National Institutes of Health (including a MERIT Award), the Robert A. Welch Foundation and, most recently, the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT) who supports a multiple institution grant entitled "Novel MRI and MRS Methods for Imaging Cancer Metabolism."
